“1 of only 3 Zoos in North America with Pandas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

No elephants, that was the only downside. Other than that this zoo is huge and has exhibits for the animals that are very generous in space, more zoos should create environments like this, with plenty of room to roam for the animals.

Plan on a lot of walking, and hills, though a great portion of the zoo has adequate shade so as to help offset heat in the summer months. Some unique animals like snow owl and white lions that you don't see very often and lots of the typical animals (giraffes, rhinos, monkeys etc)

PROS: This zoo is totally clean, well kept and nice people working. Exhibits are spacious and really done well. Pandas are rare and this is one of the few places in the western hemisphere you can see them. Different than the exhibits at the national zoo and san diego for sure, this one was more open to the elements, though they have a nice house to enjoy as well. We've been to 30+ zoos now around the world, and this one is definitely a keeper and I'd highly recommend it!

CONS: We went on a weekday and was disappointed that none of the concession/food stands or restaurants were open, even by the time we left which was about 1pm.

“This was so much fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

I enjoyed the zoo, but to me it was a bit out of the way from all the touristy stuff. I had a great time I love zoos, although one drawback is the very steep hill going up from Canada land to rest of zoo. It is killer and not good for those who have back, leg or knee issues. I also enjoyed the tram ride around the zoo, lunch with peacocks wandering around. (I love peacocks so this was a bonus for me) The food is your average tourist attraction food. It was fun seeing the pandas a once in a lifetime opportunity. We spent almost the whole day there. They were doing renovations to some exhibits and currently working on a new Asian addition to the zoo. With a large zoo, there is always some type of repair or renovation to be made. Also if you have kids they have this mini water park and lots of picnic areas to enjoy as well. I had fun overall

“Huge Place, Best for Summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

My friend and I went there on March, not too cold but windy day. many facilities are closed due to the cold weather, such as Africa Wild Animals. The electric car and restaurants are closed... so sad... but we still see the polar bear, eagle and many animals anyway ! its a good place for everyone! but I suggest that u should go there after May~ u can see more animals and have better experience ~

“Panda experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

We had a great time there. This zoo is just amazing for kids and adults too. You can spend a full day and you won't get bored. I've never seen animals so active in a zoo. Don't be surprise, even if the zoo is not downtown, you'll have to pay for the parking... they should include it in the pass!!

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

While we did enjoy our visit to the zoo, we were a little disappointed. We found that the up keep on some of the animal enclosures were lacking and in some cases dirty (many dead fish in the penguin pool). Unfortunately, we arrived at the zoo in the early afternoon and all the big cats were sleeping. On the upside, we did thoroughly enjoy the zebras including two babies, the giraffes (one baby), the pandas and many other animals. It was also great to let our little guy play in the splash park before calling it a day. Make sure to bring some swimwear for the little ones.
