The Toronto Islands provided a green space and peaceful waterfront that the city sadly lacks. It was a simple and inexpensive way to escape the noise and dirt of the building site that is downtown Toronto! The island cafe near the Ward Island ferry port provided a good cappucino and homemade muffin for a mid morning break. The Carousel restaurant near the arched bridge provided the worst food I have encountered in a long time (rotten salad leaves and someone's hair in the beef sandwich). Don't use it. I did not try the other food outlets. If we had taken a picnic, there were ample places to enjoy a quiet lunch along the delightful walk between Ward Island and Hanlan's point on what for us was a warm, sunny June day.
