Fantastic mix of local retailers and large chains; delicious bakeries and restaurants; great summer festivals and sidewalk sales.

“A village in the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

With a great selection of fruit, vegetable, bakeries, markets and other local retailers, this is a great retail stroll with no shortage of coffee shops from both chains and independents. Always bustling with activity.

“A Great Neighbourhood Going Modern”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

Bloor West Village, the former Ukrainian and Polish residential bastion, has evolved from being a strictly European neighbourhood into an upwardly mobile mix of young-to-middle age families (multi-generation Canadian) with a much smaller European footprint now. There are a few, terrific polish and ukrainian delis and bakeries still going strong, but they're all less visible amid the vegetable markets and the aluminum, glass and glitzier storefronts of the boutiques, pizza joints, salons and small cafes. I used to love the Bloor West Village stretch from Glendonwynne Rd to Jane St, but it's less interesting now. I'm being too critical if you happen to be a lover of double smoked Kolbassa though; or fresh, crusty rye bread; or a fresh roasted cup of coffee at one of at least four independent cafes (all with free wireless Internet I should add). Hmmm - I almost forgot that Sunset Grill opened a location in the Village too; great breakfasts, fresh lunches and a happy/friendly atmosphere. Explore on your own. Walk slowly so you don't miss anything. Did I mention Snapper's Fish Market on Durie St just north of Bloor? It's terrific. There's much more. If it's a nice day, don't forget your camera and stroll up and down some of the side streets too because you'll find some great old residential Toronto architecture, some big homes and a thousand delightful gardens.

“So many shops, so little time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2011

In this area you must visit the Chapter's book store built inside the old Runnymede Theatre - great experience in the old vaudville theatre - the magazine racks are on the old stage!!! Great job by those who restored and maintained this piece of history. Also visit Queen's Pasta just a short walk to the west of Chapter's - great food there. The old Library building is a landmark here as well - been on a postage stamp etc. Plenty of other great shops to see on both sides of Bloor Street. You can also get there by subway train.
