“Nice hotel, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Stayed here for 6 nights in June 2013. The hotel was undergoing renovations at the time but this didn't really affect our stay. Rooms are clean and a decent size but a bit dated. Booked through Alpha Rooms which stated the rooms had a safe but we didn't have a safe in the room.
Location was great, close to many restaurants and shops and only a 15/20 minute walk to the CN Tower and harbour.
A criticism I have was that they tried to charge us $69 when we checked out, for room service which we didn't have. This got sorted in the end however we were made to feel like they were doing us a favour by not charging us.

All in all a good experience for the price (85$ per night + tax).
We were not disturbed by the reconstruction, we barely could hear any noise from the works. The elevators were working just fine and we have never waited more than few minutes.
Rooms were large, well equipped (though a water boiler would be nice). The beds are great and for sure u r gonna have a good sleep. We had a room at 4th floor and there was no view from the room. We did not care much about it since we did not spend much time indoors, but if you want a nice view make sure to choose a higher floor (>7th floor).
We did not take breakfast as we found the prices huge and there was a lot better choice around.
The location is the best selling point. You are downtown close to all shops and restaurants.
All in all, a good hotel in a great location. If you get it for the right price, don't hesitate. But i would not pay more than we did for this.

One note: we were pretty annoyed by the Destination tax bill about which we were not informed at arrival. Its not a lot (like 2-3$ per day) but the fact that you get a bill under your door in the last day of your stay seemed rather strange. I would like be informed about it at checkin.

Room Tip: A higher floor gives best views.

Stayed 2 nights just before this Delta Chelsea became Eaton Chelsea.

It is a great location; there's now shopping and banking across the street, and it's just up from Eaton Ctr. Lobby reno almost done; the decades-old wood panels are now white. Note that the back restaurant and bar are still closed for renos.

I tried using the video check-out; it provided a statement view then just hung when I selected checkout. (Same experience as 2 years ago)

My room looked south; could even see a bit of Lake Ontario. The balcony was accessible only because someone had pried off the wooden barrier.

Hallway noise was somewhat of an issue, but didn't stop me from sleeping. Room had newer carpet, but otherwise the room was still dull and boxy-feeling. Flat panel TV lacked some speciality stations. Real wood furniture, but has seen better days. Comfortable bed and white comforter. Sheers and blackout drapes on the windows. Air conditioning with wall thermostat worked fine.

Coffeemaker, but no fridge. Iron and board in the closet. Bathroom is small. Good toiletries, not a brand I've seen before.

I used the adult pool top floor. Nothing much ever changes up there. Lots of pool and workout towels at the desk. There is an outdoor balcony for sunning that was getting some use. Got locked out of my changeroom locker - as did someone else. Took much too long for a service person to appear.

No probs with the wifi; no code required. Didn't need parking, but it was $29 for overnight with unlimited in/out.

The biggest issue was the elevators - but the maintenance workers strike has just been settled.

I hope the new company can give this big hotel a much needed investment to modernize it.

Stayed 3 nights here - location was fab, room dissapointing at first as very dated looking. However, bed was literally the comfiest ever I actually want to buy the bed! Bathrooms nice and free wifi great. Ate in hotel and was decent, best thing was how spacious room was & well kitted out. It's a big hotel and very busy - try to go on roof terrace after dark as the view is amazing.

The Chelsea, Canada's largest hotel, has an excellent location near Dundas Square. The lobby is undergoing re-development and as a result I got a very good deal on a room. The rooms are very clean, but dated (peeling wallpaper, tile grout stains). Internet both wired and wi-fi is free and worked perfectly. Large balcony, but not much of a view. The 27th floor pool, fitness centre, and sundeck are excellent. And don't miss the Corkscrew waterslide on the 2nd floor. I would definitiley stay here again, but I hope they start updating the rooms.

The lobby was under construction causing minor inconveniences that were easy to overlook. The maid service and the gentleman who cared for the workout facilities were excellent and cared about their duties. The only thing that stopped me from rating this as 5 stars was the lobby help. Both the front desk clerk at check-in and the concierge staff were rude and not helpful. The in-room directions said that the concierge staff could provide a map with local running routes, but in our five day stay they were unable or unwilling to find one. Whenever I would dial the concierge, the front desk would answer and they were always quite "put off" with having to redirect me to the concierge. I used the phone as I was unable to ever find someone at the concierge stand.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and despite the obvious renovations the staff made us feel welcome and went out of their way to assist.

Our room was spacious, and bathroom clean (the hairline crack in the wash hand basin is hopefully destined for renovation). Others have mentioned the ongoing problems with availability of lifts / elevators (due to ongoing engineer strike), but this was never more than a very minor inconvenience.

We would consider staying again here again, post-renovations.

Dear Al_Pal_Newcastle,

Thanks for your feedback regarding your 2 night stay with us. I am pleased that although the lobby at times is a bit chaotic with the renovations, you were not inconvenienced by this. We are truly excited to reveal our new look and to continue updates throughout the building. We are pleased to hear that you will be back, and look forward to that time.

Thank you,

Alistair
