I visited The Banting House Inn for the first time with two college friends over a weekend in May 2014, and I understand why the Inn is top rated.
First of all, the interior of the Inn itself is lovely and comfortable; special and interesting without being fussy or precious. Interesting art, a welcoming dining room stocked with light snacks 24/7, and a beautifully restored wooden staircase in a historic building.
We got to tour many of the rooms, as we were among the last checkouts of the weekend; each is unique but has in common immaculate cleanliness and thoughtful touches, very comfortable mattresses and ironed cotton bed linens.
Scott is just a terrific, funny, charismatic host -- he makes it easy to join his breakfast table for delicious made-to-order dishes. No chafing dishes with limp leftovers at BHI; you can have fresh fruit pancakes at 8am or 10am as you prefer.
Book early and often and you may even have a brush with fame. On the weekend I was there, the Inn was hosting an instrumentalist from a sold-out-arena-shows American rock band, and the recently elected mayor of an American midwestern city!
Five star experience.
