The most wonderfully concealed Toronto hotel is situated right in the heart of The upscale district. However, when we entered, we felt like we were home...very unpretentious staff and everyone was there to ensure a well and happy stay, not to tip gouge (although it was most appreciated by the staff) From the moment we walked in we were taken care of and pampered. Our room was impeccably spotless and at the floor of our beds were slippers, sateen robes and an espresso machine. To make it easy, just insert a cup of the flavor of preference. All complimentary and every evening around supper time, the chef always sent 4 homemade cookies (all different each night) with a dark chocolate design on the plate. The first night was a music treble clef. Upon entering our room the radio was tuned in to opera for the proper ambience as I entered with my son, the mood was set with Puccini. There was a walk in closet, a valet stand, a sitting area with current magazines for all interests. The bathroom not to be understated featured a Jacuzzi tub, a glass stand up shower and separate water closet. Each evening one of our butlers would ring our doorbell to ask if we wanted turndown service, complete with a change of towels. The bedding was decadent. Duvet covers and lots of clean smelling fresh linens and fluffy pillows.
The free buffet breakfast was hot and pleased even "pizza for breakfast" people such as ourselves. The hotel offers even a vegan menu and vegan specialties at breakfast. High tea is offered and it was always busy although we did not attend. Many did and said it was superb. A must for us next time. My son and I (14) enjoyed hot rock massages, spa pedicure and manicure for my son ( anyone with a teenager knows that is the last thing on their agenda) a gentleman's facial for my son and an Oxygen facial for me. The aestheticians were terrific and tremendously professional as were the licensed massage therapists. In the spa there is a "step up area" and there are orchids everywhere in white to match the contemporary surroundings. There, was a bowl of fruit, fruit infused water, a table and sofa, the gym and the balcony overlooking downtown Toronto, in all of it's splendor.
We were pampered but not made to feel like we could not take care of ourselves. The simple touches from the personalized welcome on stationary, to a "real" wakeup call was a wonderful change from technology. The staff at the front desk also did their best to call and make reservations for us at "Second City" finding out particularly if my son could attend.
Even our doormen, were like friends as everyone else when we would leave and we would have wonderful chats. Everyone on the staff is dedicated to making a team effort. No drama, no cattiness.
I was wondering where my morning papers were.....In the butler's closet, which I used for suitcase storage. Our butlers delicately placed a New York Times and a Toronto Sun in there every morning so we would not be woken up to the sound of newspapers hitting the floor. This time I was in town for a rock concert, next time it will be with "the girls."
Loved it ,loved it
Oh and the pool has a fireplace to the side and comfortable sofa's instead of plastic chairs
I hated going home because I felt like we were leaving family...I even called a few days later and said, "Hi." It was very well received. Don't miss this gem. You won't be disappointed.
