I stayed at the Westin Harbour Castle (A Starwood Hotels Brand) in November and had a pleasant experience. The Westin always has the best beds in the industry and the room had been remodeled in the recent past. The view was amazing. I looked West over the Harbor and the CN tower, which each night had quite a spectacular light show.

I flew in on Porter Airlines to the Toronto City Centre airport. The Westin Harbour Castle is just minutes from the airport making it extremely convenient for time limited weekend getaways.

You won’t find this on the website, but the hotel is in the middle of a multi year renovation project. Sadly the pool and grand lobby were closed during my stay. The Westin is compensating for this with reduced rates. (you can't stay at a Westin for $75/night under normal circumstances) If you must go swimming, Starwood will accommodate you at the Sheraton Centre, which is also downtown.

As with most hotels, you will only get the best service if you are a member of their loyalty program and book through hotel branded sites. Thus, if you are not a Starwood Preferred Guest member and/or book your ticket through a consolidator such as Expedia or Priceline you will be put into a room that may not have been remodeled yet. Sadly, you get what you pay for through consolidator sites.

I rated my overall experience Neutral taking into account the remodeling inconvenience. However, I still absolutely recommend this hotel. Just call ahead to find out what services may be unavailable during your stay.

We spent a weekend getaway at the Westin Harbour Castle. We booked the stay on Priceline through the bidding system and paid only $75 per night. For the price, it was fine, but had we paid full price I would have been profoundly disappointed!

When you pull into the front entrance, you are immediately besieged by valets who basically try to toss you out of the car and snatch the keys. The only on-site parking is valet ($30 per night) and apparently there is an off-site parking lot that is cheaper but nobody is keen to hand out information about that. We were a bit taken aback and ended up with valet parking almost before we knew what had happened. I'm not a pushover by any means but found their aggression surprising. Also, there is a charge of $11.50 anytime you would like to get your car out of valet parking before your departure.

The staff member at the front desk at check-in was unfriendly and unhelpful. He was mumbling, condescending, not forthcoming with information, and generally unfriendly.

The room was small but very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was clean. The shower had very little pressure and they didn't leave us enough bath towels (1 towel for two of us), although they did deliver more quite promptly when we called. There was a minibar which we did not use, as well as a 1-cup coffeemaker with enough coffee for only one person.

We had looked at the hotel website ahead of time and were looking forward to using the pool and hot tub, which looked lovely in the photos. However, it turned out that it was closed for renovation during our stay, a fact which was conveniently omitted from the website.

The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from Union Station, although there is a streetcar station closer. It's not terribly inconvenient (and would be great if you were only going to the Air Canada Centre which is virtually across the street), but the location is a bit of a pain compared to other upscale hotels in town.

Overall, for $75 per night, I can't complain - it was comparable to a run-of-the-mill Best Western in a small town. But for a four-star, downtown, "upscale" hotel whose usual rate is $250 per night? Disappointing. I won't be staying there again.

Although the hotel did show some aging in the hallways and pool area, it did not detract from our enjoyable stay. The room was very clean, nicely updated and had incredible views. Including a nicely stocked, albeit expensive, mini-bar and complementary Starbucks coffee. I thought it was a great location for a city hotel, only a few blocks from all the action, but once you were in your room you felt like it was miles away. Plus, you've got to love that Heavenly Bed! We found the front desk and especially the concierge extremely helpful and friendly. However, I think that cordial behavior is a given for Canadians.

  • Liked — The Heavenly Bed.
  • Disliked — Mini-bar cost.

I stayed here for 1 weekend night. I had a high floor, corner room looking over the lake. The hotel had some construction going on in the lobby but I couldnt hear any of it in my room, and it was mostly out of site, blocked by temp. walls. The check-in was quick and I was in my room within 5 minutes.

The room was large and comfortable. No complaints about the Westin's beds, as they're some of the most comfortable out there. The bathroom was decently sized and had a great showerhead.

Location is right on the waterfront. You can walk to some downtown locations, but its across some busy streets/overpasses. I would recomend taking a cab from the hotel rather than walking..

I am very dosappointed with the customer service at front desk at This hotel. I left a package to be picked up for a person, when the person arrived to pick up they did not have it and told him there was nothing there even though I had them register it in the computer.
I called Front Desk manager on duty and he was very rude and would not even allow me to explain my entire concern and immediately passed the blame to others and did not listen to what I had to say.
Very unprofessional and not friendly. I did not find consistency when speaking to the staff there.
I must say not worth the money, hotels nearby have better customer service.
