but as long as you understand that, you will be fine. The rooms are worn, carpets are threadbare, furniture in common areas is either missing or broken, only one of three lifts seems to work at any time and you will fight with laundry cart wielding staff and construction workers for a spot to ride it. On the plus side the rooms, while tattered, are very clean and fresh smelling. Our room on the west side of the 9th floor had a distant view of the lake. If you only want a convenient place to lay your head, this is it. The location for the price can't be beat in Toronto.

To use the lobby bathroom, you have to get a key from the the front desk. Attached to that key is a broom handle with "bathroom" scrawled on it in magic marker. That should give you some idea what to expect from this place. I guess they were out of hub caps.

It was a terrific place to stay even with the remodeling going on. We had a friendly check-in, even though there were 4 couples checking in together. There is so much to do around there and we had breakfast in their Fox & Fiddle bar/resturant on the morning of my husband's birthday. Great waitress named Martina, brought him out a candle on his French toast, with a balloon and a Fox & Fiddle T-shirt. All through our stay we tried out some of the 22 draft beer. The subway is right there and we never moved the cars for the 4 days we were there. There were resturant's and donut shops and even a food store right there. The rooms were clean and had everything you'd need. However the ice machines weren't convienent. This was all for a very reasonable price. It was a great place as a hub for sightseeing in a wonderful city.

Hotel : The Quality Hotel Midtown
Location : Toronto
Time Of Stay : April 27-29 2005

This hotel is a lovely place to stay. It seems to be quite busy with business travellers and people like me (travelling around for fun), however, the service was quick. I can see why the hotel appeals - it is centrally located with a nearby subway stop called St George which is quite literally just around the corner. There are also a lot of touristy attractions nearby including the Bata Shoe Museum (located right across the road) and the Royal Ontario Museum (a short walk). The room itself is very nice with a comfy bed, sofa, desk, 2 chairs, quite big screen, bigger than average bathroom etc. I had to phone reception on the first day as I couldn't figure out how the taps work for the bath / shower. They answered straight away and sent up a maintenance man who turned the rather stiff tap and it worked! It was rather embarrassing however it was fine ever since. I would definitely stay here again. Also I never used the restaurant because there were so many other places nearby to try out.

We spent two mid-week days at the Quality Hotel Midtown and were pleased.
The hotel is located on a very central street close to the university and museums. There are many restaurants and bars in the area so it feels nice even at night (more so than some parts of downtown). It is located one block from two subway lines which is extremely convenient if you are without a car (e.g., if you want to go to the CN tower)

No breakfast is included, and the rooms are not very big (although they are reasonable for an urban area). Staff was OK but was not particularly friendly or professional.

Still, if you're in town for business or pleasure, or visiting the university, it is a good place.

There is a bar attached to the hotel, but we did not try it.

We stayed here April 23-24. The check-in was fine but when we got to our room things took a trun for the wrost. The Ice Bucket was real dirty. We ask if they could bring a clean one. They brought another one still dirty. So we phone the manager and he made sure it was clean. When we go to the washroom the vent look like it was going to fall off. The guy came and fix that. When we went into the closet a big pile of vomit. The manager put us in another room this one was really clean and smell fresh. For a 14 story hotel they only have 3 ice machine and only one was working. The rooms do need some renovating and are in that process right now. I will return when the hotel is finish renovating and give it another chance. You also get free acess to Bally Total Fitness wich is down the street.

After visiting China last year I thought nothing could top that experience but I was proved wrong.

All booked through Expedia. I'm 23 by the way.

I try to go somewhere on my own once a year, so this time I visited Toronto from 15th March - 21st March 2005, and what a wonderful time I had.
Everyone is so friendly and laid-back, it's such a beautifal and clean city, albeit it will look better in the summertime. Very easy to get around using the top-notch TTC (Public Transport) system.

I recommend picking up the lonely planet guide about £9 from amazon. It's excellent with city and subway maps.

I stayed in at the Quality Hotel Midtown, with a free upgrade to a business room. Nice large ensuite room, TV, Broadband Internet,Cofee maker etc. Also excellent bar/restaurant downstairs in the hotel, with pool table and arcades. Bar was teaming on ST Patrick's day.

Places to go - CN Tower, excellent view, Niagra Falls- Magnificient (better in the summer years), Skydome, Harbourfront, Bata Shoe Museum, Royal Ontario Museum, Chinatown + plus much more.

Also the pound is at a great rate so for all you shoppers I recommend the Eaton Centre, Yorkdale Mall, P.A.T.H (Underground Walkway +Shops).

Also visited a friend who lives in Etobicoke, nice place down there.

I highly recommend Toronto, its still cold in March (similar to English weather) but not freezing.
Unfortunately don't have any photos to hand.

I know some people have reservations about travelling solo, but there is so much freedom in it, and its very difficult to not make friends. I met quite a few people on the plane, in the airport, in my hotel, also on my tour to Niagra. Still keep in contact with them.

Hope this review helps.

Luda

I stayed at this hotel in February 2005 for two nights, but stayed here before in February 2004. The main feature of this hotel is location.
It is virtually next door to the subway at St. George subway stop. A quieter hotel then other hotel locations in the city. A smaller hotel, with a reasonable price and with limited facilities (no pool). Some light renovations could be in order.

Couple of concerns this time around. The ice machine on the 8th floor was out of order. I had to go to the 3rd floor, and that machine was out of ice.
The carpet in some of the main areas is getting shabby and should be replaced as it could be a hazard.
We had to change rooms after seeing the one given to us at check-in because of stains on the sofa.
The hairdryer in the bathroom only worked on one setting. And the shower curtain should be replaced (although clean) had remnants inground mildew.
Staff were average, what you expect from Choice Hotels. There is a handy coffee shop on the ground floor, and you don't even have to go outside to access it (good for leaving the coat in your hotel room - if you want to get your coffee first thing in the morning).
Many restaurants are located within a 5-10 minute walk or easily accessible by subway.

This hotel has an excellent location, and is value priced. I would stay here again because of that.
