“well appointed rooms, quiet and clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

well appointed rooms, really noticed nice quiet. Air conditioned worked well and adjusted accordingly to room temperature without it being too cold or hot. Bed Mattress quite good with choice of soft or firm pillows. Hotel floor hallways from elevator seems new and nice. Very clean room and bathroom.

Meeting room was a bit small and check-in was average.

Much better than expected.

Room Tip: Room near back of hotel was very quiet!!! :)

Got a good rate for a 3 day stay and decided to take a chance after reading other reviews. The location is great as it's about a 45min walk to Rogers Center and only a block away from the subway.

As others have mentioned, the hotel is very rundown and not up to the standards of most Holiday Inns. We stayed on the 3rd floor and there definitely was a funky smell, though everything did appear clean. The hotel pub is disgusting and stank like stale beer. We wanted to eat there one afternoon but couldn't tolerate being there for more than a minute. The front desk staff were polite and were great at recommending other restaurants and pubs in the neighbourhood.

We were away from the hotel for 10+ hours a day exploring Toronto and thought it was a good deal. I would definitely not stay here if you planned on spending most of the day in and around the hotel.

Dear Jon V,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our location for your visit to Toronto.

I would have to agree that out hotel is in need of an upgrade. We have submit an application for renovations to IHG with hopes of being renovated soon. We are in a great location with a lot to do right around the hotel, and with 150 restaurants within a 10 minute walk you will never go hungry.

Thank you again for your post and we look forward to seeing you again.

Stayed for 6 nights for business trip. The room had a comfortable bed, one work desk with a comfortable chair to sit on, a small desk with sofa, cable satellite TV, iron/ironing board, and a fast wireless Internet. A good size of bathroom with everything that I needed. The air con worked well and quiet.

Overall a good hotel for a business trip or a holiday where not too much time will be spent at the hotel. It also well situated; 10 min walk to University of Toronto, within a walking distance to China and Korea towns.

I stayed in this Holiday Inn before (several times) and also at the other Holiday Inn downtown. This one is definitely inferior in several ways. The airconditioning is very noisy. You are forced to have it off to sleep. The room has very limited space to hang your cloathes. The wardrobe is narrow and the space is taken up by the ironing board and the safe - they need to place a another wardrobe. The TV only has a few channels since most analog channels are noisy with lines on the digital flat panel TV (unwatchably bad); not many digital channels to choose from. Many of the TV channels on the guide were not available. Not econo-green friendly unless they are saving cost by asking you to reuse bathtowels vis-a-vis a platic water bottle in the middle of your desk ($3.50) they would like you to consume every day. There is an immense difference between this Holiday Inn and the other one downtown. This hotel has a long way to go to improve its rooms and service.

Room Tip: The King room has more space. The lower floows suffer from noise from the pub over the weekend. If y...

The hotel is well- situated; an easy walk to University of Toronto (purpose of my trip) and subway ($3 to airport), as well as Royal Ontario Museum, Bata Shoe Museum (yes, shoe museum), shopping and restaurants. Would stay again.

We were attending a wedding at Casa Loma and this was the hotel closest to the venue. In an area where all the hotels are $300-800 there are just two mid-priced and one budget hotel. Since we were just using the room as a place to get dressed the mid-range seemed like a good choice.

The hotel was average in all respects which is not a negative thing. It is basically exactly what you expect and will not disappoint or impress. For this area I would say it is very good value.

With respect to location it is in Yorkville -- if the stuff you want to see is also in Yorkville then it is a great location and if not then less so. It is a little further out than the rest of the hotels from the center of Yorkville but not in any meaningful way. The subway is a block away. There is a 24 hour convenience store / grocery across the street.

The hotel has a pub in the hotel as the restaurant. We did not eat there but I have gone to other pubs from the same chain many times and the food is good for a pub.

The hotel was offering a deal where you could pre-pay for parking which was excellent as parking ended up being $10 rather than the typical $30-40 you'd expect.

Myself and my wife recently stayed at this hotel for two nights on a vacation. When we arrived they were doing the monthly fire alarm checks but said it was fine to use the elevators and go to our room. I found this as odd since if there was a real fire it would be a safety concern. Check in was easy and pleasant. Room was standard. Nothing over the top to boast about but very clean and modern.
We received a notification in the morning the a/c to the building was not working and they were working on it. We left for a day of sightseeing and loved how close the hotel was to downtown. We walked through Toronto and ended up back at the hotel before supper, still to find no a/c. We tried the attached pub that night which was excellent.
The nights sleep was brutal in hot Toronto. Check out was easy although I wanted something for having to deal with no a/c. After speaking with management, they offered to pay our parking lot fees for our rental car of 44.00.
Overall the building is older, but modern decor. If the HVAC is working, and you wanted downtown Toronto, it's a great place to stay.

Dear OeschJ,

Thank you for posting a review of our hotel. We are pleased to hear that despite the problem with our A/C you were able to enjoy your time in Toronto. The A/C is up and working now, the problem we were having was completely out of our control and was fixed as quickly as possible.

We appreciate you posting a review and we look forward to providing you with a "cool" room in the future.
