“Fantastic Breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

My family booked this Holiday In because it was conveniently located just off Highway 401 and close to the Funeral Home & Church where the funeral service for our aunt was taking place. The HI Front Desk , made us feel welcome and right at home offering Condolences on our recent :Loss. They also upgraded us to the :Non-smoking, Premium Club " floor along with a newspaper and snack packs after our 5 hour journey.
A hearty , nourishing buffet breakfast in the hotel's Monterey Restaurant ( with Egg-Station prepared omelettes/fried/scrambled eggs etc.) and a variety of hot/cold cereals/breads/rolls/muffins, meats & fish , juices, cut fruits, yogurts and plenty of hot coffee strengthened us for the long, sad day ahead. Our empathic waitress wished us condolences and, offered a Priority Club 10% discount for our CA$20 breakfast.
All in all a very pleasant Holiday Inn experience under rather unhappy circumstances...

Room Tip: Request a WEST WING Room as elevators are close to Swimming pool/Spa & side doors to parking lot...

On first glance, Holiday Inn Yorkdale looked unimpressive from Bridgeland & Dufferin St. The main drive-in entrance is right through a Honda dealer or Tire service lot. Then, the cafe and lounge are almost invisible from the small lobby. Although the meeting spaces looked somewhat outdated, the service was good and the pool and lounge areas were bright and open. The rooms are okay, and it's worth booking if you request a fourth or fifth floor room overlooking the cafe or saltwater pool. Shuttle service regularly takes guests across the street to Yorkdale mall (5th largest centre in Canada) and subway station, which is a brief train ride South to Royal Ontario Museum (Museum subway station) or to Art Gallery of Ontario (West on Dundas from St. Patrick's subway station). If driving, the hotel is located conveniently at the corner of Bridgeland-Yorkdale Rd., which connects just South of the mall on Yorkdale to Allen Rd. S. toward downtown via Eglinton East, or from Yorkdale to 401 East & West (400) highways with an adjacent path to Allen Rd. N. (toward York region's Vaughan through uptown/ North York). It's not 'happening' like Yonge St., but more restaurants and cheap outlet shops can be found some blocks South on Dufferin at Orfus Rd. This is a shopping paradise, and Yorkdale is a hub to everything 'Toronto' along highways 401 and 400 North. The location almost can't be beat.

While the hotel was fine, clean, well kept, etc., The Parking lot is weird, you have to pull in to the dealership next to the hotel then pass into the hotel parking lot.

The hotel restaurant was something to be desired. The girl Nancy, was something other than a savant. I ordered three appetizers. A half California roll. (Had a coupon at check-in) Some bruschetta and a Mediterranean Soup (to die for) Only Nancy brought the one at time and made me wait 5- 10 minutes between each appetizer. Even ordering a beer was a 10 minute ordeal. Now I know being American WE can be impatient. But there were only 4 other people in the whole restaurant eating. Besides the bar keep and the two other waitress.

If Nancy and the cooks could have step up their game the hotel would be a 4 or 5 star. But thanks to slow poke Nancy I ate at the Mall across the street. If you have business downtown, it would be better to stay there. If you have business in Yorkdale. Stay here and try the restaurant. Maybe you will have better luck. The food was good. If not the Yorkdale mall has a ton of tasty venues.

Have been using this hotel for the many years, once or twice a year for short business trips. Convenient shuttle service to Downsview run by friendly staff. Walking distance to the Yorkdale mall. The hotel has two towers, the East Tower is getting tired , don't like the rooms facing the inside of the hotel. Internet this time was ok although had to keep logging in frequently. Good breakfast and not bad restaurant food. Overall OK for business stay, if you get a good rate.

You always seem to know when you're in a Holiday Inn hotel.
The location was convenient for a wedding we were going to.
The parking lot is very weird to get into. No real signs to direct you to the front of the hotel.
There are barriers so we just parked in the back. We didn't have much luggage so it wasn't a big deal.
No safes in the room. Safes available at the front desk and they look like they're 50yrs old.
The drink machine on our floor was extremely noisy (Luckily we were not near it).
The elevators take forever (I waited over 10min. one time).
The room is adequate. One sink (Not good for weddings/makeup).
The shower was funky to adjust the heat.
They had midget pillows on the bed. They do give you 4 pillows. 2 of which are rock hard.
I never saw such small pillows on a hotel bed.
The heater was roasting set at 22 (71.6).
No closed cupboard so everything is out in the open.
The hallways feel old.
The hotel is clean and the front desk staff are helpful and pleasant.
Don't expect any offers to help with luggage.
The challenge here is that at the special event rate of $129.00 this hotel is overpriced.
So the regular rate would be way too high.
It's Holiday Inn to the max.
It is right across from the Yorkdale Mall which is probably the best mall in Toronto.
If you need to be downtown there are much better options.

Room Tip: Make sure you're not near elevators or drink machines. This is an older hotel. It really matters...

We stayed at the hotel to participate in a family event. We booked two rooms since the room with the 2 double beds wasn't big enough for a family of four with teenagers. The kids stayed in the room with the double beds. We had a king size bed. Our stay was very nice. Both rooms were clean, smelled nice, and had very nice bedding and pillows. Our room had a couch and coffee table. Prior to the evening event, my family (without me) went to visit the Royal Ontario Museum. I stayed and relaxed in the room. Room service wasn't available but I ordered lunch by phone and went downstairs to pick it up. I had the Harira soup and some bruschetta with tomato and feta cheese. I was very surprised by the quality of the food. It was delicious. As a former food professional, I wasn't expecting such high quality food but it was great! Also important was that it was right off of the 401 Highway. It was close to my family and the event. Additionally, we came from Washington, DC so the closeness to the highway and ease of entry to get back on to go home was really important. My only complaint was that our room was overlooking the pool and you would get a strong smell of chlorine. It didn't bother me but it bothered my husband. Other than that, a very nice experience for the money. We will be staying here for other Toronto family visits in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the pool side so you don't get the chlorine smell.

Great location, being across from the Yorkdale mall certainly made the hotel not too bad, but the room itself was dull, older, and the hotel can use a face lift both inside and out. The room did have an odour to it, and the room was over priced for a boring, and standard hotel. did not like having to walk through the gaming area where it tennis balls were flying at you, but it was nice to see they had some activities for the guests.
