I had such a love/hate relationship with this hotel. The location is fabulous, right downtown and close to public transportation. Being an older hotel - the room was small, but remodeled recently and extremely well appointed with great use of the space - also super clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable as well. The staff was friendly and courteous. We didn't eat in the hotel, but I know there was breakfast available for a price.
Parking was conveniently available in a garage catty cornered across the street, but be sure to take your room key if you plan to access your vehicle during your stay as there is a security pad that requires the key to access. There is a guard in the garage that should answer when a number is punched in, but as we learned both from experience and a resident who lives above the garage(apartments or condos above garage), that keying a number into pad to the guard doesn't work. This was a slight inconvenience, but nothing that would stop me from staying here.
Our room was #1614, located with a view of Dundas Square...AWESOME! But this is where the hate part of my relationship with this hotel comes in. The hotel is older with extremely thin walls, though remodeled, it still can't hide all of the outside noise. I am a light sleeper and was constantly awakened by outside noises. The cable cars run directly in front on Dundas Street, and I could also constanly hear people being loud outside even though we were on the 16th floor. I was then awakened aound 3am by drunken hotel patrons in our hallway just outside of our room door. If you're a partier or heavy sleeper, this may not be a problem, or heck, I would have taken melatonin with me to put me to sleep had I known before-hand about the noise factor, this hotel would have gotten a five star from me if it weren't for that. The location, room cleanliness, price, and staff were excellent. I wish I could have given it a better score, but considering that I was there to sleep, yet couldn't...well, that's kind of a big deal.
Maybe a room on the other side of the hotel would be more conducive to sleep? Very cool place none-the-less.
