“Always great ambiance !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

I know it's Caren's wine bar but every good bartender worth his salt should be able to make a palatable martini. We may have found the one bar that consistently makes mediocre sometimes unpalatable martinis. With so many staff hanging around the bar, someone should be able to rectify the situation.
Now for the upside.... OMG, the burger is amazing. Perfectly cooked and dripping with Stilton. The pasta great.
We have been there many times and although the food is good, their fromagere should head back to the farm and have a chat with those that understand what a cheese offering should be.
Great little serendipitous spot!

“Okay but not memorable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Went here with a large group and had a fixed menu so maybe they were constraiined a little. Started with a ho hum sald of greens and avocado but I didn't detect any dressing. The lamb shank was hearty and plentiful. Would have appreciated more veggies and a starch with it as the gravy/sauce was quite heavy. Was tasty just the same. Didn't get a chance to sample any of their wines but the selection looked like lots of options available. Not in a hurry to go back

“Just not worth going to”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

This review pertains mostly to the wine and cheese aspect of the restaurant. I've eaten here before and the food was fine but not note worthy. The patio is pretty nice.
So our snack of 4 cheeses, half a litre of wine and some prosciutto/chorizo on the side cost 100 $ for two people. The cheeses were all fairly mediocre quality and the wine was a terrible pairing (waiter suggested). The meat sides were an upsell from the waiter and below loblaws quality.
100 $ can often afford a bottle and two inspired meals at a place like black hoof. I would have at least expected a wine bar to have inspired and creative selections.
Our waiter was also charming but kind of annoying.

“My Go To Neighbourhood Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

If you find yourself in Yorkville and are seeking a fun spot to dine, check out Caren's back patio. Savor their fantastic selection of cheeses, charcuterie and wine by the glass, or one of their delicious main courses. The service is friendly, too.
