“Cuban flare lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

This is what Cuban food should taste like when you go on that all inclusive Cuban vacation. Avocado salad was delicious. If you're hungry, pulled pork, rice and beans plate will satisfy any apetite. The Cubano sandwich is their signature dish. Coffee is delicious.

We went to Delux and had an outstanding Cuban breakfast of poached eggs, pork and rice and beans. Absolutely delicious. Definitely worth the visit

“Go right now.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

Go.

Get the pressed Cuban sandwich, get the fries and greens. Eat all of it.

Then, get some doughnuts OR the "Milk" and cookies.

The next day, repeat.

I don't know what else to say. If I lived in Toronto I would eat that every day, and laugh at what the rest of my country says about my wonderful city.

“Go! French AND Cuban ...who knew it'd be so great!?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2011

Delux has been one of the bright stars on the hot Ossington strip for the last couple of years (since 2008), and this is the first time we went there for brunch. Pleasantly, it turns out that their Cuban brunch is available all the time! Dinner has been good there, with a mostly French bistro type of menu, but we didn't know that it also has a regular Cuban brunch menu until we went during the Cuban festival on Ossington (Havana Cultura)....we thought is was just part of the weekend's festivities. The Cuban sandwich, cafe con leche and their donuts for a dessert all lent some authenticity to the weekend - we'll return again to sample more off the brunch menu.
We don't often plan to go, but wind up walking by...and a few attempts to just drop by haven't always worked out. A reservation is probably the wisest move. The kitchen really does delivers there, with great tasting and really good looking plates. Everything from steak frites to duck confit for dinner for the French side of things...and have yet to try the truffled gnocchi (guess there's always something to go back for). Yes, it's a cliche, but you do really eat with your eyes too! The prices are quite reasonable too for Toronto.
In the evening, especially when dinner out is your only real plan, it's fine to have a more leisurely pace of eating and drinking. The pace at brunch, though, is pretty hectic. We didn't mind waiting for things, but it would have been nice to be acknowledged by someone while standing there waiting for a table...while sitting there waiting for a menu...while waiting for eye contact...while waiting for.......well, you get the idea. The service is actually pretty good in general, but if they just acknowledged you right away then it would ease everyone's mind that they're not invisible. That was the one real issue at our brunch - a simple head nod in our direction or "I'll be right there" would have made all the difference. We'll have to return on a non-festival weekend to see if they're a little less crowded and pressed.
The decor is a bit funky/artsy, with lights inside of a cylinders of fluorescent tubes hanging from the ceiling, and a long alphabet graphic taking up the majority of their main side wall.

“We liked it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

Typical decent downtown West Toronto local restaurant, many blocks beyond the tourist area. We went for the Cuban festival.

Loved the food. Prices were reasonable for the quality. I think they might have been slightly overwhelmed because of the Cuban festival advertising. The place was full and they turned some folks away. We had a good time. Service about 3.5, food 4. We would go back again. The staff were friendly, atmosphere typical. Whether it's genuinely Cuban, we don't know, even though we've been to Cuba more than once. It's worth a visit if you're in that neck of the woods.
