“Unexpectedly great deal - I wish this were my apartment.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2010

I was looking for a decent place in the heart of downtown Toronto for under $100, which isn't easy, and I found this place online. I was surprised to find that it's above a furniture store, and I honestly had no idea what the place was going to be like. In any case, I was completely surprised. The room was very classy, with all new furniture, fixtures, bathroom, and kitchenette. It was very clean and stocked with dishes and a small refrigerator. It was also an easy walking distance to tons of restaurants and bars, etc. The only small drawback was that you can hear street noise pretty well, but it didn't bother us. It was way, way better than staying at some chain motel.

This apartment was quite the bargain for what you got! The rooms were small but cozy, and also very clean. It was exactly what I was looking for and was in walking distance of EVERYTHING. Such as Kensington Ave, Chinatown, Little Italy, and Queen Street! I recommeded this place to my friends and family. Definitely a good deal and kind staff! Did I mention it comes with parking and is in a good area?! Two thumbs up!

We weren't sure what to think when we first arrived - we even wondered if we were at the right place. But we were soon pleasantly surprised!
Do not be deceived by the exterior's shaggy appearance! A short flight of stairs brings you up, out of the busy streets below and into the clean, well lit corridor above. There appears to be no shortage of spotless, spacious rooms. The beds are comfortable, and high speed internet and decent cable tv are included. Our suite included a full kitchen, too. And for those who smoke or just enjoy fresh air, you can open a few windows for serious ventilation. The only downside was very minor - you could hear anyone walking in the hall. Otherwise, it was affordable, and well worth it!

My husband and I had a very good experience staying at Urban Suites.

The location is in a flavorful part of the city - we stayed in the East Village of New York for our honeymoon for an indication of what our tastes are. Authenticity and diversity are our styles. It's situated in a great location from which to explore the city and its many offerings.

The apartment suites appear very non-descript from the outside. Once we walked into the room, we were charmed by its simple coziness. There was good attention to details in the bathroom and mini-kitchen, and it was a very clean suite. You will not receive a better deal in downtown Toronto. The only challenge was that the bed was hard for our preferences.

Dealing with the proprietor was an excellent experience.

Thanks for a lovely stay, Michael!

When I'm in the city, I know this place is affordable and clean plus walking distance to great restaurants on College st. w and Queen st. w. Only a $11 cab ride to the Air Canada Center and The Rogers Center if you decide to watch a sporting event. I've been here twice already and I will probably be back for new years

We have just come back from a 2 week stint in one of the economy studios (not the cheapest, but the next one up) and have been quite disappointed.
yes, it's cheap and yes, the staff are friendly enough - but there are the following things to consider:

1) A mouse got into the room twice - and the building manager said "Well, I don't know what to do" which wasn't too helpful. He did put down two non-humane sticky mouse traps, one of which I managed to get a toe on and ruined a perfectly good pair of socks.
2) Air con. One thermostat controls 4 rooms (at least) so there's a gentle tussle going on between residents to get the temperature they want. If, like us, you like not to be frozen, you could be out of luck if there's someone who likes the cold. Noisy as heck as well - like an aircraft flying outside the window all night
3) Thin walls and if you're neighbours aren't considerate, you could be listening to CSI at deafening volume at midnight. At least, it sounded like CSI.
4) Checkout is 11am. Which is fine - if there's actually someone there to check you out. There wasn't when we wanted to check out - one phone call got an answerphone, one got someone else who suggested that we leave all of our cases in the room and give the key to the maid, and she'd bring the cases down later for us to pick up when the shop opened. Not when there's a load of new stuff in the cases, we thought. So we had to wait for someone else to rock up and open the shop so we could check out and secure our cases for a few hours.
5) Doors go straight into the main hallway, so if anyone walks past with their cases, they sound like they're coming into your room.
6) Maid service doesn't include putting a new bar of soap out even if the old one is pretty much gone, nor replacing the one remaining sheet of bath tissue (toilet roll) with a fresh roll. Nor changing the towels, for that matter.

However, it is cheap, well located and the staff seem friendly enough. If you're on a couple of day lay-over, it will probably be OK (provided you don't mind the mouse). Any longer and I really wouldn't recommend.
