“The room smelled of urine”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

As soon as we opened the door, we knew we couldn't stay there. There was the stench of urine in the room and floor was very dirty. The owner/manager wasn't available, so we simply left to find somewhere else to stay and ate the cost of the room. We called him to let him know, and he was very nice and offered to show us a different room, but it was already too late at that point. We felt bad since he was so very nice, but the rooms were in a condition we were just not ready to deal with.

We travel a LOT. We have stayed in many Delta Hotels, Hiltons, etc....all at a whopping price for nice decor. Sam is the friendliest owner you could ever meet, if you need something, just ask he will get it for you. The rooms are OLD, he is busily trying to update each one. New bathrooms, little kitchenettes, it is a Quaint & Quirky place to stay. So if you can handle & overlook some outdated furnishings & enjoy a nice comfy bed, this is the perfect place to stay. The price is right & like I said, just ask SAM for anything. One night we were staying there, and there were a band of travelling "bagpipers" ( yep, kids who played bagpipes) didn't speak English well, arrived late & SAM COOKED THEM DINNER !! Try getting that service at your 5 star hotels.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are a little noisier with road traffic, so ask for the ones at back. He has...

My family spent three nights here during a stay in Thunder Bay. The motel was simple and older but had some nice updates--comfortable beds, updated bathroom. The family suite we stayed in had two bedroom areas separated by a wall and a simple kitchenette with a funny stovetop/refrigerator combination, but all functioned well. Gas grill in the common area if you were so inclined to use it, as well as patio furniture under a pretty crabapple tree. The owner, who took over this property about a year ago, was friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and strove to make sure we had a pleasant stay.

Sam was very friendly and always in for a chat.
The room has character, bathroom was completly new, the kitchenette is fully equipped and the most important thing: It was very clean! Laundary, WiFi and TV worked without problem.
Djuring our stay I had a bit of a cold and he brought me a lemon and vitamin pills every day.
We enjoyed our 3 days there very much and we can’t agree with the older reviews because Sam did a good job in the renovating.

Other than the owner being a very accommodating person and the rooms were somewhat clean, but the walls were paper thin and the dust was a little too much. A bit more effort would make this place great but the owner seems more intent on keeping you there with idle chit chat and diversions about the city and the new flooring in the rooms. We will spend the extra few dollars on a chain hotel and be guaranteed we aren't going to hear our neighbours snoring next time.

Room Tip: DON'T stay in number 12, or 11, or any of them, I'm sure the walls are the same throughout.

My husband is traveling across country and I am booking hotels for him. I booked this hotel last night. They accommodated us no problem; it was cheap, clean and quiet, though it smelled quite stale. The staff were very courteous. This is the perfect spot for a budget traveler.

We are a large family, and we had already been turned away from one motel because of no vacancy. It was late, and we were desperate to hurry and find a room. We had never heard of this motel before, but we saw it as we were passing through, so we pulled in. The outside is kind of creepy, but we learned that the owner just bought the motel this year, and has been busy with renovations inside the rooms- hopefully he eventually addresses the outside. When we went in our room we were pleasantly surprised! It was very clean, which is a requirement for us because 2 of our kids usually have to sleep on blankets on the floor. It also had no smell of smoke whatsoever. Which is also a requirement because 2 of our kids have asthma and are allergic to the smell. The room was nicely furnished, and we could tell that there were improvements to it. The mattress looked new, as did the flooring. There are more things that will probably be improved, but for the price, it was well worth it. The owner was very nice and helpful too. We would stay here again if we ever passed through.
