“Good if passing through.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012 via mobile

No frills but it's right off the trans Canada and the rooms were very clean. Great housekeeping!
The front desk folks were a tad rude to other people we saw who did not make a reservation, so I would suggest making one.
I wouldn't stay long term, but it did the trick as an overnight stay while passing through on a road trip.

“Very poor for a Comfort Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

We required a non-smoking room due to alergies and the room 141 reeked of smoke. The breakfast area is pathetic and the poorest of four Comfort Inns we stayed in. A counter with six stools in the main lobby and inadequate food. Had to take food to the room. Grossly over priced. We would never stay there again.

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your accommodations at our Comfort Inn. We do offer some smoking guestrooms, and unfortunately, the odour (at times) does permeate some of the other areas. Additionally, it is quite common for guests to step outside their guestrooms (via the patio doors to the parking area) for a cigarette. Again, the smell does come into the building.
We do serve our breakfast in the lobby area, and as such, we do not have a breakfast room, but do provide service trays to facilitate taking breakfast offerings back to the guestrooms. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide a new, comfortable breakfast area in the future.

“No don't stay there...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012 via mobile

So disappointing, reeked of cigarette smoke, musty, damp, dust everywhere (not cleaned properly). You cannot just put a sticker on a smoking room and call it non smoking. Cigarette burn holes on carpet and chair. Chairs and bed spread stained. Paying 146$ definitely not value for money. Should avoid.

“Very Disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

10 July 2012 we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Thunder Bay. We have stayed at many Comfort Inns, but have to say this is the poorest one we have ever stayed in. We booked a non-smoking room, and it is a "old" smoking room, with a non-smoking plaque on the door. There were bugs on the floor, dirt around the back of the sink, and a cigarette burn in the tub. We travel a lot and know what quality Comfort Inn usually maintains - this one does not have any quality. The eating area has six bar height stools and there is no "new" area for a breakfast room. All the complaints individuals have posted on trip advisor are right on the mark. Paid a high price for room and got low quality. Fairly new bedding, spots on quilt top. Next time we pass through Thunder Bay we will be staying elsewhere.

I am truly sorry that your stay with us was uncomfortable. It is from the comments of our guests that we are able to identify any shortcomings and take the necessary steps to resolve any issues. You are absolutely correct in your comment that we have some non-smoking rooms that in previous years, were in a smoking area of the hotel. Unfortunately, we have been unable to replace all of the tub enclosures that may have sustained a burn from a carelessly laid burning cigarette. We all look forward to the time when we will no longer offer any smoking rooms!
Our breakfast is currently being served in our lobby, with carrying trays for any guests who would prefer to return to their rooms, as our current seating area is (indeed) very limited. Our future plans definately include an expanded hot breakfast offering and designated seating area.

“ask to see the room before paying”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

The room itself was in need of a make over, old carpet, stained mattress etc...we stayed on the second floor....biggest complaint is the smell of smoke; we thought this was due to the room being an old smoking allowed room we later found out that the first floor under us is smoking allowed???? we where never told anything about this at time of booking and when we woke up i had a sore throat and my wife had very puffy eyes (we think from the smoke). when we issued a complaint the next morning we found out about the first floor smoking rooms and stated our concerns, they did give us a discount but the issue is a lack of concern for the health of the guests. The breakfast area is very small and can sit approximately 4 - 5 people and the toasters would not work; the "free" breakfast was a joke....
we have issued a complaint to the Guest Relations Department and hope that they can look into this locations issues......

Room Tip: in my opinion stay away from this location until they clean up their act ....

I am sorry to learn that your stay with us was less than satisfactory, but it is from the comments of our guests that we are able to identify our shortcomings and take the necessary steps to improve.
As you mention, we do still offer a few smoking guestrooms in our Inn, and unfortunately, the smell (at times) does come back into some guestrooms. It will be a great day when we are no longer offering any smoking accommodations!
Thank you for contacting our Guest Relations department, as this will allow me the opportunity to further address any of your concerns in a more personalized letter.
