We celebrated our anniversary at Verdicchio's restaurant and realized it had probably been a year since we we've been there. The place had been completely rennovated and looked nothing like it's former self. It was like stepping through some black hole from the industrial park location and arriving at a modern big city restaurant. But here lies the problem - it could have been any swanky restaurant in any big city. Verdicchio's has lost its character and its charm. Sure the place needed some updating but those iron gates, cozy sections and hand painted scenes of Italian landscapes added charisma. And I'm not sure why a restaurant would rennovate and not add any more tables. But enough of the decor. The service was very good. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. We both had the four course tasting menu paired with wines. I love that the courses combined flavours and foods that I would never be creative enough to make at home. And it was so nice to have wines with each course that enhanced the flavours of the food. The meal varied from good to very good but I would not say that any particular course was exceptional. Also of note were the very talented musicians - Iona Reed and Ron Kelly who went table to table taking requests and playing various genres of music without any music sheets - Bravo! So would we go back? At $200 for our dinner, maybe for another special occasion or maybe not.
