We’re typically only in Stratford to see a play, but when we’re there we always look forward to our meal at the Parlour.
On this trip we both ordered the special lobster-mango-baby spinach salad to start ($12 per). My wife is still raving about it while conversely I found it a bit bland. Hers had decidedly more lobster to it.
She had the salmon special ($24) while I had the beef tenderloin with winter vegetable risotto and sauté of mushrooms ($29). I really liked the three flavours in the dish: the charred flavour of the beef, the butteriness of the risotto, and the slight earthiness from the mushrooms. My tenderloin had a bit of sinew running through it, but nothing too onerous.
We finished by sharing the Parlour’s signature dessert, their Pavlova. It's an extremely light and fluffy interpretation, not the more solid version that I’m used to. The huge dome-shaped serving, crusted on top with almonds, comes with raspberry and lemon coulis.
With a ½ litre of California cabernet ($25) the bill came in at $117 after tax. Even though my meal wasn’t perfect we still love the Parlour and will continue to make it our go-to spot in Stratford.
