“Bond Night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

Bought tickets for the "James Bond" theme night. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to check in and peruse the town before getting ready for dinner. Check in was welcoming and quick. Ample free parking at the rear of the building.

The room was quaint facing the main street. Fridge, coffee machine, flat screen tv, free wifi... No elevator to take things up to the 3rd floor but this is an older building. This may pose a problem for some.

For the dinner that began at 6pm we had a smaller group of 25. Started with typical "Bond" cocktails at the bar with "Bond" themed appetizers then escorted to the private dining room at the back of the restaurant for a great steak dinner and desert. Delicious! Smaller party allowed for mingling.

Wonderful experience! Will definitely return!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have a better view but more noise.

Only $99 for deluxe rm with jacuzzi. Monday night nosh night in the dining room was amazing - they bring food till you are done - I did 14 noshes. Delicious. They have a winter package for $149 that includes room and 50 dollars towards dinner.
Staff are also helping out our family over xmas when they are technically closed.

We did not stay there, but only went for lunch. It was very tasty but the menu seemed limited although what we ordered was fine. The restaurant seems to lack a bit of atmosphere as it's the shape of a bowling alley, very long and thin.

We stayed here for our anniversary when our usual B&B in Stratford was booked.

Pro's: Great location, right on the main street, comfortable, clean, good-sized and pretty room, big tub, Keurig coffee maker and delicious cookies in the room, friendly staff, robes in the room were a nice touch.

Con's: Pillows were awful (Strange thing to complain about, but they were really uncomfortable), view was windows of other apartments and someone's rooftop patio (we weren't bothered, we just closed the blinds). The heating unit was really loud, so we turned it off and used the electric fireplace to heat the room. Not great soundproofing.

Side notes: There are a lot of stairs :) (Not a big deal, but I'm 7.5 months pregnant lol), we were in Room 206 and they have changed from the red bedspread and curtains to a more subtle grey (I think it's nicer).

We will stay here again for sure :)

Room Tip: Room 206 was a good size, pretty, with a nice tub and electric fireplace, but no view and quite a f...

We've stayed here several times before. The location is great, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. The drawbacks have been pointed out by others (tired decor, bath facilities showing some rust, window views that make you want to keep the shades pulled) but we always felt that, in the balance, this was a nice place to stay, even after they stopped including breakfast with the room. However, this past weekend was probably our last. The staff is still polite, but seem harried, and the service has dropped off. When we first opened the door to our room, we were greeted by a vacuum cleaner that had been left behind. Rooms were not cleaned until late in the afternoon, the fridge was not restocked with water, more than once we called downstairs to the operator and got no answer, the TV remote was barely functional, and--the straw that broke the camel's back--the internet connection was extremely slow when it worked at all. Using the hardwire connection was minimally helpful, but only for one person at a time. We weren't trying to watch movies, just check email and work with some files online. We told the staff but nothing happened. So, reluctantly, we'll probably start looking elsewhere.

I've now stayed at Mercer Hall on 4 or 5 trips to Stratford to see performances at the Stratford Festival. Although not for guests who can't climb stairs, the 14 rooms are delightfully located on he 2nd and 3rd floors above a restaurant on the Main Street of Stratford. Room are spacious and clean an there is no sense you are above a restaurant. Rooms on the back admittedly quieter than those fronting on the Main Street - morning truck traffic, not rowdy bar noise - but probably less if an issue if you are there in AC season or don't like to sleep with windows open. Downtown Stratford is a delight to walk around, and it's so handy to walk out he front door and turn left or right and start your stroll. The restaurant and bar downstairs Tango, open for lunch and dinner is on of the best in town - we plan one night if no plays so we can enjoy their offerings. There are also tons of alternatives for casual or good dining and picking up picnics within an easy walk, as are the theatres. Jessie who organizes front if house and her partner back of house and chef Tim ( formerly at Stratford's iconic The Church restaurant, make this a friendly and warming place. Expect to see a few high profile faces wandering about in the restaurant. Book early,

Room Tip: Third floor or rooms in the back a little quieter.

We've stayed here 5 times. Used to enjoy breakfast downstairs at Tango - which is no more sadly.
The rooms are quite lovely - but be prepared to climb a lot of stairs to get there. There is a small fridge - though they don't seem to defrost at all which means you can't freeze your freezer-paks. the room was quite clean - though we had some doubts about the tub.
Without access to breakfast, the place does seem rather pricey now. The location is still great - especially the parking which allows walking to the theatres.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the rear for quiet.
