We stayed here for a full week in August 2005.
First of all the location is a dream -- 5 minute walk to Tom Patterson theater, 10 minute walk to Avon, Studio, or Festival theater. Location is unbeatable.
Don't be put off by the Ontario St address-- the place is well insulated and very quiet. They have central A/C and all the windows are kept shut. We stayed in room 5 (near the back of the house). I'm a light sleeper -- I wake at the slightest traffic noise. I had no trouble sleeping till breakfast time.
Kevin Gormley (the co-owner) is a licensed gourmet chef with many years experience in Europe and Canada (he worked at the Church restaurant for 6 years). The breakfasts here are elegant. Every day saw another amazing creation. Look for garnishes of edible flowers. There is also home made yogurt, jam, and other goodies. They are flexible in dealing with food allergies -- no matter what your tastes, you won't be disappointed.
The house is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The ensuite shower had plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. We found chocolates on our bed every night.
There is a huge sunroom that is shared space for all the guests. It is full of comfortable chairs and sofas. It contains newspapers, magazines, books, CD player, and loaner umbrellas. There is also a small fridge stocked with bottled water -- free for the guests.
Kim Foster (the other co-owner) is a former employee of the Stratford Festival. She is friends with many of the actors -- some of them occasionally drop by to say hello to her. Geordie Johnson dropped by one day during our stay.
Kim and Kevin run a wonderful operation. They (and their well behaved child Connor) truly put themselves out to ensure their guests are well taken care of. They will discuss any topic -- day trips, picnics, restaurants, plays, shopping, etc. They really know the town -- when they mentioned a restaurant had slow service, they were right.
Parking is easy just outside in a private area by the house or garden. Unless you're going out of town, there is no need for the car -- everything is so close, you can walk to anything in the downtown area.
We have stayed in 4 other B&B in Stratford. This was our first time here, but we're hooked. We'll be back next year.
