“A piece of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

John and Mary Lou are exceptionally warm and welcoming hosts. The Caversham House offers Gourmet food, exceptional linens, many small amenities (toiletries, water, soda, candy, fresh baked cookies, sewing kits, large screen tv, library...to list a few) and a fabulous location: mid way to downtown shopping and to the Festival Theatre. We have visited Stratford for over 30 years. We just found this "little piece of heaven!" and are glad we did. Thank you so much to John and Mary Lou for taking us in and making us feel like "old friends."

Room Tip: all 3 rooms are a delight.

We have visited Stratford several times over the years to see plays and have tried different places to stay. This visit we were fortunate to book at the Caversham House with Mary Lou and John as our hosts and had a terrific experience. The rooms are well appointed. Wi-fi and use of their laptop if needed were nice extras. We enjoyed fresh brewed iced tea and cookies on the front porch after our arrival. Breakfast was extraordinary with delicious offerings and beautiful presentation. The location is ideal as you can walk to town for shopping and dinner and walk to all of the theaters too. We couldn't have asked for more and appreciated Mary Lou and John's recommendations for things to do and restaurants in the area. We look forward to a return visit, as I expect many of their guests do--they make you feel at home!

I am not surprised that all the reviews of this B&B are "excellent"--I would be surprised if anyone could find anything to fault. The true treasures of this place are Marylou and John, who are as genuine, fun, and caring as any couple can be. The baking and breakfast were truly gourmet, unique, fresh as delicious. The housekeeping was impeccable. Fresh cookies every afternoon, homemade danish and granola and a main course every breakfast, turndown service every night. Plus lots of good stories and local insights. The only warning: the rooms and bathrooms are very small, and the stairs quite steep--but no complaints. And the front porch is the best EVER! Wonderful location walking distance to everything.

My son and I stayed at this beautiful home for a hockey tournament which was hosted by Stratford. John and Mary Lou were wonderful hosts throughout our stay making sure that they did everything possible to help us enjoy our stay. Our room was beautiful as was the whole house. The B&B has all the accomodations that a great one should have and they have great attention to every detail. We enjoyed our conversations and a beautiful breakfast, including a snack before our early morning game. John even attended 2 of my son's hockey games and offered great skating advice! We are very grateful that both John and Mary Lou took so much care to help us enjoy our stay. If you are staying in Stratford you will not find a better B&B.

My spouse and I celebrated our 40th Anniversary in Stratford Ontario. We enjoyed 3 fabulous plays. They were Camelot, 12th Night and Jesus Christ Superstar. We went for the plays but the real Superstar of the trip was the avers am House B&B.

Let's start with the hosts Mary Lou and John. They are the reason we keep returning to B&B's. Very helpful to us rookies who have never visited this region.

They recommended Alexa's.Cafe. It was couple of miles out of town but they said this restaurant was wonderful and very reasonably priced. They were correct on both accounts.

We slept in the Hendley Suite. Perfect. Comfortable and very quit.

Of course we should mention location, location, location. The house is perfectly located between the Avon Theatre and the Festival Theatre. An easy 10 minute walk to either one. The Avon Theatre is downtown so plenty of great restaurants and shops are very close. The house is located on a very quite street.

Last but not least the breakfast. One of the best we have had at a B&B and we have stayed at quite a few. Waffles were so good I thought I was back in Belgium.

We highly recommend this B&B and we will return. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

Room Tip: The Hendley Suite has a small balcony.

This was our 2nd visit at Caversham House, and we were welcomed like old friends. John and Mary Lou could not do more for their guests - beautiful rooms with everything you could possibly need and the best breakfasts. Don't miss John's scones!
