“Affordable luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2011

I booked this hotel online after searching on google for hotels in the area. I wanted to book a hotel that belonged to the Choice group of hotels. I was to meet my ssister later on that week.
Getting there from the airport was a bit hard as it was winter and the airport is quite a distance away. My advice is to have the hotel arrange for a cab to meet you on arrival at the airport. As soon as i arrived, I was greeted instantly by the reception staff. I asked for a room on the ground floor and got a really lovely room with an enormous bathroom.
The room had huge windows that looked out onto the front of the hotel which made it easier to watch for my sister's arrival.

The good thing about this hotel is that when you pay for teh room , it also includes breakfast. Breakfast is served every morning and is a buffet breakfast where you help yourself to a wide variety of choices like fresh fruit, muffins & bagels, cereal & oats and choice of tea/coffee or juice. Tea & coffee are also available round the clock.
Since it was winter, having a continuous supply of hot tea & coffee was a really nice thing to have whenever you come in from the snow outside.
There are also quite a few restaurants in the area.

Overall it was a really lovely stay. The staff ver friendly and relaxed and easy to approach for assistance. They were also very helpful with directions to nearby places of interest.

I've been to many Sleep Inns but have to say this is not what I expected. Although the staffers there were more than courteous and cheerful,

Pros: Really friendly staff and workers there. Proximity to the train station and Docks Bar and Grille

Cons: Old-looking carpets;, headboardless bed so our heads were bumping against the painted dry wall; desk lamp without an outlet to be plugged in; bright light shining through the door cracks at night (had to block part of it using two towels in order to sleep); no shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc., just one bar of soap found in the room; a (possibly) 42" LCD TV placed about 25 feet from the bed (measured from the TV to the front end of the bed) - making the TV impossible to watch from so far away); worn and torn couch; one of the worst continental breakfasts (albeit free of charge) I have ever had - except once at an EconoLodge in Indiana where all they had were a dozen donuts and a thermos bottle with some lukewarm coffee in it); unattractive decor - atypical among the other Sleep Inns I've been to - sort of like a bachelor apartment lookalike style of furniture arrangement in the room; only one ice maker near the lobby; and, oh yes, no elevator.

We stayed here for one night en route to Bruce Peninsula from Michigan's UP. The room was very large and we got a good night's sleep. The staff was also very friendly.

We booked this hotel after reading reviews on trip advisor (which weren't bad) as we needed to stay for one night during our trip from Calgary to Toronto.
The hotel claims to be non-smoking, but the first room they gave us was like an ashtray so we asked to change (and they were still arguing it's non-smoking). The second room we got was not as smelly, but on the second floor with no elevator (we had tons a luggage so that was a pain).
The room itself was quite small and the carpet felt like it was old and dirty. We discovered after reading the room binder that it was a pet friendly hotel, so that didn't go too well with us given that we were traveling with an 18-month old. It just felt kind of dirty. Also, the sink is directly in the room so that makes it more difficult to use it once the baby is asleep.
The free breakfast was fair.
The one weird thing, is that about one week after staying at this hotel, our daughter got these weird skin spots. She was still sleeping in her travel bed, so we washed everything, and after that the spots stopped coming and healed. And even though we got it checked by a doctor who claimed it was something else, I am convinced that it was some kind of bug she caught in that hotel. It was just too much of a coincidence.
I would never stay at this hotel again.

The Sleep Inn is situated near the waterfront and a bit away from the congested main highway strip. Our room faced an open field and was very quiet. Parking was plentiful and it was easy to reconnect with the highway. The rate was much better than many of the other hotels we checked out. Our room was compact but very functional. It was very clean with a good bed and shower. It had a fridge, flat screen TV, and wireless internet. The complimentary breakfast was very basic consisting of bagels/bread, cereal and a juice and (weak) coffee. Probably a walk down the street to Tim Horton’s would be a better option for morning coffee. Apart from that, if you are looking for a hotel in Sault St. Marie this would be a good one to consider. (We stayed here on our return trip as well.) Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Sleep Inn is a well run chain hotel and we had a good night's sleep. There is a nice park next door and some restaurants a block or two away, all very walkable, The staff was nice and helpful. Unfortunately the hot tub wasn't working (but the sauna was!).

The Sleep Inn in Sault Ste Marie was a very place to stay. Our room was quiet, clean & quite large. I felt safe there. The staff was courteous & helpful. The best part was there was a park next door right on the water where we could walk our dogs.
There was also a complimentary breakfast served as well.
