“Great service! Excellent experience! No small detail was overlooked...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

I recently traveled to this hotel with a large group. Although some members of group rented rooms of differing sizes, all were extremely pleased with the cleanliness and the attention to detail throughout the entire hotel.

The lobby is large and impressive, with a jumbo screen behind the front desk showing local tourist attractions like rivers and waterfalls just a short drive from the hotel.

I stayed in the governor's suite, which featured a large living room complete with a fireplace and a wet bar. I ordered that a pizza be delivered to the room and found that there were no plates in the room. I called the front desk to request that plates be sent to the room. I was expecting that the plates would arrive within five minutes or so but was surprised that the room server was at my door in less than one minute. This is only one example from many possible examples of an all-around excellent experience for myself and all of the members of my party.
The bathroom was also well-appointed with a large bathtub and a state-of-the-art shower (rainfall and body jets) all with precise temperature control. For a hotel built right under the town's water tower, it goes without saying that the water pressure was fantastic. (Low water pressure is my #1 pet peeve in some hotels.)

Another great part of my stay at the Water Tower Inn was the restaurant, where I ate a heavenly stack of pancakes, topped with fresh fruit, peanut butter and pure Canadian maple syrup.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Algoma's Water Tower Inn & Suites. One of the great pleasures I have in my job is being able to give staff a heads up when we get a new review...after all, they are the reason we get compliments such as yours. You stayed in our Governor General's Suite...the largest and grandest of our many attractive suites. A Governor General of Canada was the first guest to stay there, and hence the name. In fact, some rather famous celebs have lodged in that particular suite. We have recently finished a complete redesign and renovation of the entire Inn, and the GG is a shining example of the comfort and amenity we try to offer all of our guests. Your pizza by the way, was baked in our wood-burning oven. Come back for pancakes any time!

2nd time back to the same inn and this time was not very pleasant. For family trips, this might be a good place but not for business trips and stay inn. Noise can be heard from the rooms next door, it is a bit hard to concentrate if you are working in your room. I had to end my entire stay and found a much better hotel at the Delta Waterfront. It is a more recommendable place to stay compared between the two.

Dear reviewer,
We are very sorry to hear that your visit to the Inn was not to your expectations, especially since you’ve stayed with us before. You don’t mention whether you contacted our Reception staff to voice your concerns. They are highly responsive and trained to address infractions in a timely manner. Truth is, we rarely receive “noise” complaints, and those are usually isolated incidents due to isolated factors. Although the Inn offers many room types and amenities that make family stays here fun and comfortable, we are also one of the favoured business, meeting, and conference properties in Northern Ontario. (We constantly survey our business clients to assess how well we are doing). We have a large, permanent base of business guests in our President’s Rewards Club, and business people and meeting planners cite our Business Centre, support services, professional staff and catering as top-of-the- line. Earlier this year we completed a total redesign for the Inn, and added more business room types and amenities to our roster. We have emailed you to respond personally to your concern, and to see how we can get you back to the Inn.

I'm on the road 80% of the tmie on business. This hotel was recommended to me by a business associate who is local. It is by far the nicest, best valued hotel I've had anywhere in Canada. If it was in every town, I'd be there! It's like someone is in a back room thinking of what hasn't been perfected every day- alot of attention to detail. really nice pool area, highly recommend for family or business.

Thank you for your kind and enthusiastic review of our Inn. As we like to say: "Business meets at the Inn". Business travellers seem to really appreciate the free wireless high speed Internet they can access all through the Inn and our 2 restaurants, Casey's Grill.Bar and The Pub. Our recent total renovation allowed us to refine the services and amenities we offer business guests. You compliment the pool area...hope you had a chance to enjoy everyone's favourite... the outdoor whirlpool by the waterfalls.
Looking forward to your revisit,
Jocelyn Watt

On a recommendation from friends, my son and I stayed at the Water Tower on our way to BC. We had a good workout in the gym, a super swim and (deep) hot tub, great meal at adjoining Casey's and a good night's sleep. Very easy to find on the TransCanada and easier to get out of town. We walked to the nearby Walmart and bought fixin's for the road for next day. Best of all was the Hilsinger family attention. JJ's biking stories, although you have to kind of pull them out of him, were very inspiring to my son who also wants to travel the world on bike. Reasonable rates just topped it all off.

Reviewed many hotels in the area and the Water Tower Inn seemed to fill our needs such as the salt water swimming pool and hot tub, sauna, restaurant, fitness center and proximity to shopping malls and the city area in general.
The rooms and facilities were very clean and well maintained and we enjoyed our stay very much(4 days). We were always greeted by friendly staff and found the inn to be well managed. The rates were very reasonable and we would not hesitate to return to the Water Tower Inn when we return to visit again in Sault Ste Marie.

Thank for your wonderful comments. We have just finished a property-wide redesign and renovation, and can now offer guests 176 lovely rooms and suites. People always speak glowingly of our salt-filtrated pools…so much kinder to the skin. We’ve passed your comments on to our staff too. Glad you made use of the new Tempospa Health and Fitness area, and hope you had a chance to soak in our outdoor whirlpool spa. The flowers and leaves are almost fully bloomed, given this glorious early Spring we’ve had, and people are out, as I’m sure you were, enjoying the whirlpool, walkways and waterfalls. Looking forward to your next visit.

After reading so many nice things about this hotel, I really was looking forward to staying there.

The lobby is still under construction. When it's finished, I expect it will be nothing spectacular. My room was very very average. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was small, and two people wouldn't be able to be in there at the same time. The flat screen TV is OK, but the cable signal is analogue, so it doesn't look great. There was very little storage space, aside from a couple of drawers. There was a closet with no doors beside the bathroom. There is a mini-fridge, which holds cream and milk for coffee and tea. You get one coffee pack per day - extras are $2 each.

There is a Casey's restaurant and a mini-Starbucks on the main floor. They were both great - especially the Casey's.

My main beef was the trip to work each day was a $15 cab ride. Because I was working downtown, it was a taxi each way [you might be able to walk it, in the summer, but it would take an hour]. The web site for the hotel advertises a shuttle bus downtown, but the front desk has never heard of it.

In summary, I'm sure that some of the rooms are very nice, but mine was completely average. The hotel still suffers from construction, and again, I think the end result won't be worth all the work. There are many unfinished edges, although it could be complete by now.

If you're working downtown, stay downtown. That's what I'll do next time.

I am sorry that we did not Exceed your Expectations during your stay in January. Our property is now completely Newly Minted and we are receiving many great comments from our guests.

We have many different room types at the Inn -some that may be more suited to your comfort. Our staff would work with you to determine the best fit for your needs.

We've made the correction to our website regarding our downtown transportation. I hope that we will have the opportunity of hosting you again in the future where will will Exceed Your Expectations.
