Just had late dinner tonight at Lizards and felt that it needed to be reviewed. Unfortunately we won't be returning. First off I think it's important to note that our waitress was fantastic, attentive and very friendly. While picking out our meals we were informed that the special for the night was a turkey dinner and a turkey chowder. We actually chuckled at the specials considering that Christmas was just a couple of days ago so not only were we "turkey-ed" out but also it just sounded too close to having leftovers! Anyways I ordered the Sausage and Pepper Penne and my husband ordered The Portobello Mushroom Chicken. Our meals arrived shortly, the presentation was good, and the food was hot. Unfortunately the devil really is in the details. After a quick stir I noticed my meal had no sausage but had shrimp instead. Thankfully, I don't mind shrimp but it was a bit interesting as there was no shrimp listed in the meal I had ordered. Our waitress came by to check on us and I told her that although I was enjoying my meal it was clearly missing one of the main ingredients. She could see that there was no sausage, she apologized and went to see about getting a side of sausage. In the meantime I asked my husband how his meal was. He said that it was fine but that he was sure his chicken was actually turkey covered in a sauce and mushrooms and was willing to bet $100 on it! Well I just had to try it to see if I could possible win a bit of cash and so I tried it myself... He was completely correct! It was definitely turkey! Once the sauce and the mushroom was pushed aside we could tell it was undoubtedly turkey just by looking at it. At this point I started to laugh. I asked him if he was going to tell the waitress and he said no because she was already dealing with my meal and she was a really nice waitress. Our waitress returned with not only a side but another full bowl of pasta and she apologized saying that they had given me the wrong meal and that the cook had now made the right one. I thanked her and asked for a take out box as neither of us would be able to eat the new meal. My husband finished his meal even though he didn't really like the turkey. We paid our bill and thanked our waitress. On our way out a person whom I am assuming is either the owner or the manager approached us and said he was sorry he didn't stop by our table to see if we were enjoying our meal but he was busy watching the video cameras. We said it was fine and left. As we walked out of the restaurant my husband wondered out loud why he was watching the cameras and joked that maybe he was watching the crimes being committed in the kitchen. We both laughed and headed for home. We agreed that although the food wasn't terrible it was the fact that someone in the kitchen had decided to serve us both meals to which substitutions had been made and passed it off thinking we wouldn't notice or complain. Considering the special of the night and the similar issue with both our meals I find it a little hard to believe this is just a coincidence. In principle alone we won't be returning to this restaurant.
