“Nice place, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We travelled to Sarnia for one night to celebrate my Grandmother's 90th birthday! We have stayed at the Harbourfront before and it has always been a great experience.
The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean & fresh. The location next to Centennial Park and the river can't be beat, especially since we were there on Canada Day. We had front row seats for the fireworks right outside our room.
With the reasonable rates and great location, I would highly recommend the Harburfront Inn. I won't stay anywhere else when visiting Sarnia.

Room Tip: I prefer ground floor rooms with inside/outside access from each room. The views are better from upp...

My family has stayed at the Harbourfront a few times, and each time we go we have a different experience. Sometimes the service is good, other times it's not. The last time we were there, the beds were a bit hard, the bathroom kind of dirty and the service was not up to our standards. Don't get me wrong, I'm not that hard to please, but I wasn't that impressed. I had to wait at the front desk for about five to ten minutes to simply borrow a pair of scissors, because the receptionist was taking a smoke break outside the front doors. The bathroom was a bit grimy, like it only had a quick wipe-down between guests. I also feel like this place is a bit expensive for what you get. One thing I always like about the Harbourfront is the fact that if you are on the ground floor, you have direct access to your car through a door at the end of your room. The Harbourfront is a place we go to for simple convenience, but we may not stay there again.

The Harbourfront Inn was my wife's selection. What a great privately owned facility. Overlooking the St. Clair River from our second floor room. Nice picnic table under shade of tree out back. Watch the locals fish from a pier. The staff was courtesous. The room was spacious and clean. Continental breakfast was well stocked. Will definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at he HarbourFront many times before and will return again .
A TIP OF THE COWBOY HAT TO ALL THE STAFF HERE. Front Desk and House Keeping , as usual , the service was excellent.
This is the only spot in Sarnia that we will stay.
Do not miss out on this getaway spot.

We spent this last weekend visiting friends in Sarnia and stayed at the Harbour Front Inn.

The young women behind the reception desk were very friendly and certainly made us feel welcome. Our room was pleasant, clean, with a very comfortable bed.

The continental breakfast was adequate (but eating and drinking out of styrofoam bowls and cups, with plastic spoons is not my cup of tea. And how much garbage it makes in this day and age when "recycling" is a huge issue for many of us.

Having said all of that, we won't return to this place for one very important reason. In the wing where we stayed, smoking was allowed except for the room we were in and one other. It had been a very long time, staying in many places, since we had had this experience and, quite honestly, we were quite shocked that it was allowed to the degree it was at the Harbour Front Inn. When we stepped out of our room to get a drink, there was a thick, heavy haze of cigarette smoke in the corridor, affecting our breathing and stinking up our clothes. Even with our door shut, it seeped into our room enough to smell it. We resented being exposed to this, especially when we know of the major health problems caused by smoking.

Other places where we have stayed have had separate floors or wings for non-smokers. This should be considered at the Harbour Front Inn. It's a smokers' paradise as it is at the moment. If you don't smoke or like to be around it, I suggest you stay somewhere else.

All in all to bad because otherwise I could recommend it.

First of all let me start by thanking you for recognizing our outstanding staff. The positive comments about your room are also much appreciated. I do understand though, that they do not diminish, in any way, your dissatisfaction with its location. For that, I am truly sorry. I would like to clarify though, that, with the exception of the wing you were in, all remaining rooms in the Hotel are non-smoking.
Smoking is only allowed in designated guest rooms, but the frequent opening and closing of the guest room door could allow some smoke to seep into the common hallway. I would like to assure you that we have not taken your complaint lightly and are presently in the process of resolving this issue.
In regards to our recycling efforts at breakfast, I too would prefer less waste. Actually, the entire food industry in general, could use more environmentally friendly containers, utensils, etc. Unfortunately, the friendly choices that are being manufactured presently are very cost prohibitive. We will remain engaged in our efforts though to try and reduce some more, without having to pass on any cost to our guests, for what so far, has always been complimentary.

Very happy we stayed here. Came all the way from California for Silver Stick and we were lucky enough to secure rooms at this place. Very clean hotel and EXTREMELY accomodating!!!! Went out of their way to make us feel welcome. You'll walk away once your stay is complete with the feeling that you made new friends. Beds were nice and firm, showers were very warm with great pressure! WiFi worked perfectly (and it was FREE!!), continental breakfast was fine and, as a guest of this hotel, you were allowed to use the local fitness center (Ironworks) which was very nice. Staff was very knowledgeable and anxious to help you out. What more could one ask for? Highly recommend this place.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving. This is an older property without frills but was a comfortable place to stay while we visited family. On the plus side it is clean, comfortable beds, furniture was in good condition, nice flat screen TV. The hotel was not full most nights, occasionally we could hear people from other units. The free breakfast is basic: a bowl of apples, oranges & bananas; bread for toasting, packets of peanut butter & jam ; small boxes of cereal and a jug of milk; coffee & tea. There are MacDonald's & Tim Horton's not too far away if you want more.

This hotel is located on the river overlooking a small harbour where grain elevators load ships carrying product in/out of the great lakes. We enjoyed watching the coming and going of the boats but there is sometimes a small amount of noise associated with this. There is nicely developed parkland all along the bank of the river into the town with a walking path. It took us 40 minutes to walk to the end and back from the hotel.

Overall good value for the price, excellent location for us.
