“Don't bother staying if you want to sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

The walls are so thin, you can hear "word for word" everything the guests in the adjoining room are saying. Secondly avoid the "City view"....the traffic noise is so loud you won't sleep.

This hotel has spent money on cosmetic fixes but has forgotten to spend money on quality upgrades like basic sound insulation - if you want a good nights sleep don't stay here.

There's way better (and cheaper) options now in Peterborough.

The hotel made a generally run-down impression with the parking not being cleared of ice.
The lamp on the bedside table was not plugged in.
The heating control are awkward and hard operate. no thermostat.
The fan in the bathroom does not work.
Internet connection was hard to establish and once connected tested out at a pitiful .76 mbs/sec.
On the whole a substandard experience.

Staff always makes or breaks your stay and the staff at this hotel definately made my stay. They were polite, courteous and very helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious and we did not experience any noise issues. Beds are very comfy. We went down for breakfast and by the time we came back up the room was clean! The restaurant was the only drawback. We visited the hotel restaurant for dinner and had the Onion Soup (absolutely delicious!!) and the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was terrible - undercooked and tasted like dirty dishwater - inedible. Others had the Ribs and they seemed to enjoy their meal. The food service was extremely slow (even though the restaurant was not crowded). There are restaurants fairly close by so you don't have to eat in the restaurant if you don't want to. I would definately return to this hotel I just wouldn't eat in the restaurant.

Just to reiterate what my friend Sheila has said. My name is Donna and I organize the ladies group event in Peterborough. I have dealt with Michelle since our first visit in 2009 and she has been terrific in helping me co-ordinate for the "girls", from making sure the space I was reserving was correct to helping me determine the best value for our money. We were treated extremely well. We were amazed that when we needed the attention of staff they were right there. The level of service is undoubtedly what will keep us coming back. The facilites are also very good. We enjoyed the pool, spa etc. The restaurant is great and we felt no need to go farther for our dinners. All in all a wonderful experience for all. Thanks again to staff members.

On behalf of our party of eight ladies, I wish to send a giant bouquet of gratitude to your excellent staff – for exemplary service during a recent stay at your hotel –

From the moment of check-in - greeted by the smiling faces at the front desk – until our departure 2 days later – the genuine hospitality did not falter –

We were treated with professionalism and personal care – whether it was the fine dining staff serving our table in your picturesque restaurant or the housekeeping personnel who attended to our needs –

The little things were not overlooked – maintenance arrived quickly to resolve several small issues - kitchen staff appeared almost instantly with courtesy to re-heat take-out!

Overall our stay was comfortable – we enjoyed the pool/hot tub facilities – again great staff – kudos to the outdoor servers around the refreshment bar who were attentive –

As our small group were so well looked after last year in 2009 – we eagerly looked forward to last week’s get away – and happily we look ahead to making plans for next year – we have unanimously agreed to make this an annual event at the Peterborough Holiday Inn!

Thank you

Sheila Frechette

Friendly reception staff but the general hotel decor was very dated. In particular, the pool area feels tired (bizarre to have a carpeted area which one must walk across on the way to the pool). However, my children loved playing in the pool (inside and outside) and the pool supervisor was very helpful and found a life jacket for the 4 year old (which she loved). The room was very clean but the air conditioning system was a relic from a previous age and chuntered away to itself all night. The bathroom was tired - some chips in the tiling etc. We chose a cheaper room facing the road - very noisy during the evening (but that's not the hotel's fault). The television had limited reception (again, probably due to its age). Room service was prompt and the food was ok - overpriced, but that's to be expected.

The location of this place is fantastic - facing onto the lake - and I wish that we'd paid the extra to be at the back with the lake view and with a free view of Friday's blues concert. But $40 seemed a big extra to pay for a view....

I'd recommend it based on the location and the great staff.

Up for Canada Day celebrations in Peterborough, we stayed in a room on the ground floor that had a walk-out to the river side walkway. From there we could sit and watch people shuffling by to take in the entertainment which was followed later by a great fireworks display. The room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We would stay there again for any reason!
