“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Tiny, centrally located, yet off the beaten path on Bronson near 417. Limited menu, but very imaginative. For all three meals. I have become a regular for breakfast with my daughter (23). Dinner menu is eclectic, and ambitious. They deliver on promises of sophisticated cuisine from a diner format. Prices are below market. Service is efficient, although not up to the menu quality. True as well for the wines, which reflect a limited budget more than the excellent meals.

If you like the Gastropub and its format, you might benefit from a jaunt to Bronson. I recommend it.

“Great place for breakfast / brunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

I love the roasted potatoes side - totally made the difference and elevated Jak's amongst the pile of breakfast places in Ottawa.

“Small place, big food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Checked the place out on the weekend with friends and we really enjoyed it. The place is small so arrive early. The waitress was really pleasant and my dish (popey) was awesome!
We'll be back.
Con: Bronson street which is the main road to get there is under construction so you'll have to go down other routes.

“Small but Good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012

It was difficult to get a reservation for 6 in Ottawa on a Saturday evening, but Jak's was able to accommodate us. The street (Bronson) was all torn up for the summer, so perhaps this was keeping people away. The restaurant is very small and the kitchen is smaller still, so the cooks were constantly exiting the back door to get supplies and food. They do however make the best of a small spot, because the food was delicious. They had a number of excellent sounding daily specials, and most of us tried one of these. Things were cooked to perfection, and service was good.

I'm sure that the road upgrade is hurting the walk-in business, but it worked well for us, and we had a great meal. This is a small restaurant with only 5 or 6 tables, but it is a good place to go for a relaxing meal of excellent quality.
