“Beautiful food and warm people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We came here for a belated birthday celebration. Dishes we ordered included the lobster supper, the trout, scallops, and the salmon dish. All were beautifully presented with a wonderful assortment of fresh vegetables: kale, turnip, parsnip, carrot etc... The restaurant even accomodated a garlic allergy. The lobster bisque was delicious, as was the clam chowder and shrimp cocktail. We were provided with endless rolls and water glasses were refilled. What made this place so special however, was the service. Our waiters were extremely attentive and conversational, which seems hard to find these days. For dessert we finished off our meals with creme brulees and chocolate cakes. The only thing I could suggest is perhaps the chocolate cake be entitled "the naked cake" because although the cake is delicious there is no icing. The tables are tight and packed in to this smaller restaurant but it makes the atmosphere cosy and warm.
The dinner specials looked amazing - artic char, or linguine with crab and whitefish..another day...We will be returning!

“Lovely seafood at reasonable prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

As soon as you enter the restaurant via the fish shop, you know you are in for a treat! This restaurant is a bit out of the way and is small (so book a reservation, as it is justifiably busy). The seafood choices are freshly prepared and very nicely presented. We had the rainbow trout as a main, and calamari as an appetizer. The trout was moist and presented with the perfect compliment of vegetables. The calamari was lightly batter and not at all chewy. Look forward to a return visit!

“Very good experience for a reasonable price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Me and my wife made a dinner reservation based on the Tripadvisor reviews of this place and were not mistaken. It was a little bit of a drive away from the downtown hotel we were staying at but definitely worth it.
General impression:
The place is a restaurant and a poissonerie in one. It was surprising how well the air conditioning system works there - the fish is three meters away from the tables but there was almost no smell. Just enough to actually get the appetite going. Place is relatively small and tables are pretty close so, there is little room for a romantic dinner. We were actually a bit overdressed for it too.
Staff/Service:
We arrived just on time (Saturday, 6pm) and the place was almost full. But there was only one family in front of us waiting to be seated at their reserved table. We waited about 5 minutes and were given a choice of two tables. Picked one but shortly after another one in the corner became available and we asked to be moved. It was not a problem and a very friendly young man assisted us with relocation. Throughout the dinner we got just enough attention and casual chat from our servers - all very polite and not a bit bored or condescending. These guys definitely value the customers' time and experience.
Food:
Ordered two New Fall Lobster Suppers - 39 bucks a piece for a three course meal. We chose different combinations to taste all choices. Included was everything as on their website menu with one exception - no choice of sides for the main course, only steamed vegetables. The waiter explained that the website menu will be updated soon to reflect this change. We are not very picky diners and were fine with it. This was probably the only downside to the dinner.
So, what was actually included?
Firstly, a cup of soup - Lobster bisque or Clam chowder. Bot very good. I am a fan of soups and enjoy them every chance I have. The chowder was not so creamy as I am used to but it doesn't always have to be. Bisque could use a bit more lobster meat in it but was very nice too.
Secondly, an appetizer - 6 oysters or shrimp cocktail of 6. Oysters were medium size, cold, fresh and delicious. Shrimps were fairly big with plenty of sauce in a cup. My wife loves them and enjoyed every bit.
Thirdly - yummy - a whole lobster (1,25 lb advertised) with a side of steamed vegetables. Very nicely cooked. We enjoyed it to the last piece of crustacean meat. I downed it with a pint of (slightly overpriced, imho) Beau's Organic Lager that reminded me of my homecountry's Soviet-era bestseller "Zhigulevskoe" in it's best and noblest sense. And we are done! check came to an almost even 100 including taxes which is very reasonable for this kind of dinner. Not to mention we were stuffed!
Thanks, Pelican, for being a great restaurant and treating your customers well!

“Our GoTo Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We just enjoyed the Pelican Grill's 'Valentine's Dinner To Go.' What a great idea. They packaged up a shrimp cocktail entree, lobster bisque, mixed green salad, lobster and chocolate cake for two. We picked the order up and headed home for a quiet and lovely Valentine's lobster dinner. Terrific! But we have always had terrific seafood meals at the Pelican Grill. Indeed, we enjoy a meal there almost once a month. We love to show off its incredible food for visitors, for and evening out with friends, or just for a quiet lunch. Everybody in Ottawa should try the Pelican Grill. And, if you are visiting Ottawa, make it a go to place.

“Always great service and fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

I've been a regular customer of Pelican since moving to the area about a year and a half ago. I stop in on a weekly basis to pick up fish. The service is always top notch, and the fish is always perfect!

I've also dined in the restaurant twice, and have been thoroughly dazzled both times by the great service, and excellent food.

This place is incredible, and very enjoyable!
