My husband and I stayed at the Byward Blue Inn for 3 nights, after we searched high and low on the internet for a reasonably priced hotel in Ottawa. We chose the hotel for its price and location, close to the Byward Market.
When we booked, we mentioned to the staff that we would be arriving late, but that wasn't a problem.
We arrived at the Ottawa Airport at midnight and about 45 minutes later we were at the Byward Blue Inn. A lady had to come from the back (where there's a home for older people) and gave us the key to our room.
Upon arrival at the room, we noticed right away that it hadn't been cleaned: the bed wasn't made, there were towels on the floor in the bath room plus the waste basket was still full.
For the rest it seemed like a nice enough room, but there was no way we were gonna stay in it!
We went back to the reception, the lady had to come back again and gave us the key to another room, that overlooked the court yard. This one had been cleaned, but there was no breakfast tray in the fridge. She promised us it would be delivered the next morning (and it did)
The next day we talked to Robert at the front desk about a room change, because we preferred a room on the front side of the building. That wasn't a problem and we were able to move to a nicer room with a nicer view.
Robert was extremely helpful with info about Ottawa, places to see, things to do and where to eat.
The location of the BBI is great, you can walk everywhere, the room was basic, but clean and we thought the breakfast tray was a nice touch. I'd brought my hair dryer, because I wasn't sure if they had one in the room, but in both rooms I found a hair dryer in the vanity in the bath room.
If you're on a budget, I can certainly recommend this place.
