We stayed at the Rideau Inn during Winterlude this year, and it was really nice. It was quite cheap, but still very cozy.
We chose one of the cheapest rooms (Saskatchewan) which turned out to be much better value than we expected - It's actually part of the Canadian Suite - its own little apartment in the basement, complete with living room and tv, small kitchen and table (the floor plans on their site don't show the kitchen, but the photos do). Anyone could have rented the other room (Manitoba) in the same basement apartment, but it was all ours, and even if they had, it was still great to have a kitchen nearby that we didn't have to share with the whole B&B. You can rent both for a great price (excellent value for a trip with a family or a few friends).
The place was really cute, with a standard self-serve breakfast (toast, cereal, fruit etc), and ice skates to borrow!
I wouldn't recommend the basement apartment for older people or anyone with mobility issues - the staircase is very narrow and there's no hand rail (photo on their site).
Also, despite the cuteness and the simple but warm design, the place was pretty dirty - not surface grime or anything to bothersome, but dust bunnies under the desk, spider webs around the window frame, grime on the back of the cupboard doors in the kitchen...it would only be noticed by people who are neat freaks and shouldn't affect the stay.
Overall, I would recommend it to anyone - the location is a cute older neighbourhood, it's really close to a tonne of great restaurants and cafes and its a nice walk to get to the central tourist area.
