“I'll be back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Nicest suite hotel I’ve seen in Ottawa. Very reasonably priced and great value. Large, open room concept, with kitchen and bath on wings behind bed wall. A balcony with a door and screen that actually open! Two large closets with several hangers in each! How often does one get that?! And a large dresser and a third (shelved) closet, too. Easy walk to major meeting sites. Basic breakfast included. I’m coming back.

We visited Ottawa in early June to attend convocation ceremonies for our two children at the National Arts Centre. We were normally able to get a discounted rate at the Quality Inn at the corner of Rideau & King Edward, but that option wasn't available for this trip so we decided to give The Business Inn a try, since we were staying for 5 nights.

Reception/Check-in was quick and courteous. Our room was conveniently located on the 3rd floor across from the gym and just down the hall from the breakfast room. I was initially concerned since we were next to the elevators, but didn't hear them at all during our stay.

The room itself was large and comfortable, much nicer than your typical hotel room. These are essentially converted condo units, and ours was a small bachelor. There was a full kitchen with full-size fridge and range, microwave oven, and as a nice added touch, "Nespresso" coffee maker and milk frother. The room also offered a standalone PC with 20" monitor and printer, a leather reclining love seat, 40"+ Sony LCD TV, full cable package including movie channels, and what is probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept on in a long time. They even offer their mattress toppers for sale. My only complaint was with the quality/strength of the wi-fi connection, although I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel that offered exceptional quality. I brought along my own portable access point that fixed things up though.

Being a bachelor unit, the bed was open to the living room, but in viewing the floorplans on their website, it appears that you can also get a one bedroom for the same price.

The gym was reasonably well equipped, including an oly bar and bumper plates, and the heaviest kettlebell I've ever seen outside of a proper gym - 60+ lbs.

Breakfast could have used a little more protein and a few less carbs, but was better than the typical "Continental Breakfast" offered by most hotels. In addition to the usual cereals and pastries you could get a hot egg sandwich on an english muffin, with choice of ham, bacon or sausage. In the fridge there was an assortment of cheeses, yogurt, pre-packed hard-boiled eggs, juice etc. The second fridge offered breakfast bags to go, but I didn't check them out. And you could get extra Nespresso cartridges for the coffee maker in your room there too.

We brought our bikes with us, and there was a rack right at the base of the ramp to the parking garage to lock them up. It would have been a tight fit for our truck in the garage, so we used the surface lot.

The hotel was an easy 10 minute walk to the NAC and Parliament Hill. Our kids were just across the canal in Sandy Hill - also an easy walk. Elgin Street offered many bars and restaurants.

All in all, we were very impressed with The Business Inn, and would not hesitate to stay there again. Sure, it isn't the Chateau Laurier, but it doesn't pretend to be. It's clean, comfortable, convenient and only half the price.

We found an excellent deal on Expedia for the Business Inn and stayed here for three nights - May 31 to June 3, 2013. We booked a VIP Suite with a bedroom. The suite was excellent - clean and extremely spacious. It was so much like an apartment we actually felt like we were breaking and entering LOL. The suite contained a full kitchen (where we cooked several dinners), dining area, living area, and bedroom. The refrigerator was full size and worked perfectly for storing all of our booze ;) The hotel even included a desktop computer with a printer. The internet connection and FREE wifi were speedy fast - we had a very strong signal on all of our iDevices :)

The free breakfast was excellent - consisting of Egg McMuffin sandwiches (mmmm.... bacon), hard boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, muffins, fruit, coffee, tea, etc. We also used the laundry - which was free - to clean our clothes before heading home. The hotel supplies soap for the washers. I was truly amazed how many amenities were included. Our daughter eats like a starving pig so the breakfast saved the three of us quite a bit of $$$. It was an excellent way to start our day and we were all full until dinner time.

Parking cost $15 per day - would be nice if parking was free but most hotels charge these days. We parked outdoors and never had a problem with security. The lot is a little narrow so be careful getting in and out!

The only suggestions I have (which are quite lame) is PLEASE brew some fresh decaffeinated coffee for breakfast (and have some decaf coffee in the hotel suites other than instant packets). The hotel only provides instant SANKA with REALLY SUCKS!!! Please also stock more potato patties for breakfast (they ran out before we arrived at 9:30am), and finally -- replace the curtains in the bedroom with full size sun blocking curtains. The short curtains don't stretch the entire width of the window and sunlight entered the room from the top, sides and bottom. I woke up at 6am every morning trying desperately to bury my eyes in a pillow. :(

Overall, we were extremely impressed with this hotel and would definitely stay here if we go to Ottawa again. Unfortunately, we lived in Ottawa for 13 years and only go when we need to meet with friends or family. (The truth is that we really hate Ottawa) LOL -- thanks to The Business Inn, we really enjoyed our stay.

TIP: we had a suite on the top floor of the hotel - 1206 - overlooking Elgin street. The opposite side of the building overlooks the parking lot and is not nearly as entertaining. Elgin street can get loud on the weekends but you are generally OK if you are up high and windows are closed to enjoy the A/C. It is also fun sitting out on the balcony on weekends to watch the drunks and all of the couples coming out of the bars arguing LOL.

Room Tip: Choose a suite on the top floor (12th floor) to be away from the noise on Elgin Street. We were in s...

I stayed at the Business Inn from May 26-30, 2013. I have stayed there before.
I find it to be an excellent hotel in Ottawa.
Check in is fast and cordial, the rooms are large and clean, the staff is very friendly.
Each room comes with flat-panel TV's, and good computers,
with printers and wifi also at no extra cost. The is a gym, which I haven't used.
The included breakfast is a real plus, with many choices,
including "Breakfast McMuffins", which a staff member will prepare for you on the spot.
This is new since I was here before,
and they have also enlarged the breakfast room to be even more accommodating.
The Business Inn is downtown,
and most everything you would want to see in Ottawa is within walking distance.
I have always enjoyed my stays at the Business Inn, and look forward to many more visits.

We like to walk all over when we go on vacation. This place is about as good as you can get for Ottawa and walking. Centrally located near the canal and major thoroughfares. 10 minutes from Parliament HIll and the walking trails along the river. If you are willing to take transit, its a 10 minute ride from the Train station. And, we love Elgin Street eating.

Rooms have lots of space and staff is VERY friendly and professional. Good and abundant towels. It was humid, so glad the AC units for the bedroom and main room worked fine and fast, although a bit noisy. Loved the breakfast. Great value all around.

Kitchen was immaculate and well stocked with dishes and cutlery. I cooked ribs one night. Hint if you buy groceries: Go to Bank and Somerset and the Independent Grocer for a large grocery selection, or down the street to Boushey's for a good local selection. Don't bother with the Loblaws on Isabella ; they have... maybe... 1/3 of the selection at the Independent (which also carries Loblaws products).

All in all, a place we will recommend.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff greet you and it gets better. The rooms are large and immaculate. There is a large tv and desktop computer and printer with a warm and cozy fireplace for those cooler days! Love the kitchen set-up. The beds are comfortable and with a good size tv (cable) in the room.
The breakfast chef is a great addition to the breakfast room, freshly cooked food! Enjoyed our breakfast with lots of food choices.
Location is great, close to the Canal, downtown Ottawa and a park beside the hotel! Very impressive place to stay, great value. Will definitely return to the Business Inn.

Stayed from Monday to Thursday. My first visit to Ottawa. Really enjoyed the Business inn. The building is a converted apartment, so the rooms are large and include a bedroom, living room ,bathroom and kitchen. They even have a desktop PC in your room. TVs (bedroom and living room) are large and have a full cable box with hundreds of HD digital channels.

Its about a 6 block walk to parliament and right on Elgin street.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Included breakfast is good, and the toasters actually work properly. There is one staff at the breakfast who prepares an egg muffin type sandwich. They also provide a grab and go style breakfast where there is a fridge full of plastic bags with water, cookies,an apple and energy bar.

Laundry room is great. Several washers and dryers. A five gallon bucket of soap. What more could you need. If you need an extra towel or box of Kleenex, there are bins in the hall.

The location is great. Right on the "red mile' or 'sens mile'. Looking forward to the hockey game tonight. Convenience store across the street, dollar store a block away for any little thing that you may have forgotten.

Building and furniture is older, but very functional. The only issue during my stay was that one of the two elevators was out of service. However that should be resolved soon.

I will stay here every time I come to Ottawa.
