We were visiting Ottawa for the weekend and travelling with teens, (they were too young for the bar scene and we felt too old), so what does one do on a Sunday evening? We are frequent cruisers and always enjoy the comedy clubs on the ships, so we decided to try Absolute Comedy which offered a dinner/show combination. We booked for six people on the phone a week in advance. When we arrived, we walked into what looked like an empty neighborhood pub complete with a bar and a pool table with a side board of steam trays and our first impressions were anything but positive. Our wives (we were two couples each with a 15 year old) suggested that we leave and find another venue. That would have been a bad decision. The males in our group persevered and we were seated at a table near the back of the room. The food and service turned out to be very good with roast beef, salads, steamed veggies, pasta etc,. (definitely no epicurean awards, but more than adequate) and all ate heartily. After dinner, we were escorted past the long lines of patrons upstairs to the theatre venue, seated at a large booth with great sightlines to the stage and thoroughly enjoyed three very funny comedians. All this for about twenty-five bucks a head. Great night out!!
