“Kitshy and Delish - A home run!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

The eggplant...I am not a vegetable kind of guy however this is outstanding food! Probably the best Chinese food in Ottawa. I have never had a bad meal here and there is good value for the dollar. Everything tastes fresh and its all good! There is a reason Tony Ho has been here a long time and his friendly service and good humor will not disappoint. There are very few of these real Canadian Chinese style Kitshy joints left...Tony puts his own twist on it. Do not change a thing! Would highly recommend the eggplant dishes. No MSG and not full of oil in the food. A pleasant surprise indeed! You will not be disappointed.

“A diamond in the rough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

There's a reason this restaurant has been here for 35 years. The food is great. We have been ordering from Ho Ho's for about 20 years.

All the North American Chinese food dishes you want, but not swimming in sauce (there's enough just not too much!), with really fresh veggies, and no MSG.

The restaurant decor could use an update, but it's always clean, the staff are friendly, service is fast, and the owner "Tony" is a gem. I think they do mostly take-out/pick-up so they haven't invested much in the decor.

There are highchairs and booster seats though. This is a very kid-friendly place if you want to dine-in.

I'd give it 5 stars for the food and service, but it looses the one star because of the decor.

“Great food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013 via mobile

The owner is a remarkably friendly host (Tony) who not only provides fantastic authentic dishes (at very reasonable prices), he's a master at balloon art! If you're there with kids, don't be surprised if he visits your table near the end of your meal to delight the little ones with a balloon hat, animal or (sadly, the favourite of my two sons) a pirate sword. My family and I have eaten his food dozens of times and have thus, gotten to know many of the dishes. I'm partial to the Ho Win Chicken. My wife loves the Shrimp Par Ding(?), one son loves the Crispy Beef and the other ALWAYS orders the Beef with Brocoli. Consistently delicious. Delivery is fast, too. Although it's not relevant to the dining experience, I can't write this review without mentioning that Tony is a huge supporter of the community. The only knock is the ambiance. Come for the food (or get take-out), but excuse the ambiance.

“Always good, lately excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Tony (the owner/manager) is always there, and always smiling. It must be because he knows how much his guests are enjoying the food. On a recent visit the Aromatic Pork, Eggplant stuffed with shrimp in black bean sauce and the Shing Chow rice noodles were just amazing. In the Hot and sour soup you could actually taste the pork... it was clearly freshly prepared. Ho Ho is by no means elegant, but it sure is welcoming and cheery inside, even with the plastic sheeting over the windows to keep the late Spring cold breeze off of us. Take out is almost as good as eating in, suffering only from the inevitable cooling and loss of at-your-table sizzling in dishes like the stuffed Eggplant. The restaurant is great for families... Tony might make balloon animals for your kids. We like it for lunch-time meetings.
