For a first recent experience at this hotel, it was very traumatic indeed receiving, twice, calls at 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. in the morning, brutally waking us up, accusing us of being too noisy and causing a racket with the television WHEN IN FACT WE WERE PEACEFULLY SLEEPING, recuperating from the day’s activities!!!. Person calling purported to be from the front desk and language used was very vulgar and brutal. After discussing it between ourselves, my friend and I, we doubted the calls came from the front desk but still we were quite disturbed by these unwanted calls and couldn't get back to sleep for a long while.
Asking for an explanation from the front desk in the morning, leaving the hotel as soon as possible since the experience was quite upsetting, we were told it might have been an “outside” malicious call which some person dialled directly to our room! Worst, another lady hearing me making the complaint at the front desk, actually said she too received the same kind of call at more or less the same time……and the front desk man acknowledged they had received other complaints of the same nature the same night!!! Note that we are not complaining about the staff since those persons at the front desk we had contact with were nice enough, but why don’t the hotel monitor all incoming calls to guests from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. so as to ascertain that calls are genuine and avoid such unpleasant and shocking situations? Plus, not only the rooms are badly soundproofed since, before bedtime and in the morning, we could hear quite clearly every little noise made by our neighbours in their rooms and in the corridor (street noises are excluded though), but why wasn’t there any security guard to make rounds once in a while to ascertain there wasn’t any machiavellic person lurking in the corridors, disturbing others by running loudly in the corridors at 2:00 a.m like we heard, after we were awakened by those traumatic phone calls??? Neighbourhood isn't the best kind too (many homeless and beggars) even if everything is of walking distance.

We stayed at the Days Inn downtown Ottawa for three nights in March of 2006.
Overall, I would say I was satisfied with the hotel. It was clean, the rooms were spacious and there was ample free parking. There was a fridge in our room (i assume all rooms have one) which was nice. The hotel was on a busy street, yet we never heard any traffic noises, or other noises from the street.
The free internet access was good, although there were some problems with it in my room. One day, i could only get access via another guest who had their wireless connection unsecured. When I notified the front desk re the Internet problem, they tried to fix it. When It didn't work, we were given the option of moving rooms (we stayed put). Eventually, it started to work. I suspect a different person (than who i complained to previously) was able to resolve the issue.
There is a grocery store right beside the hotel, and a 24 hour grocery store a short walk from the hotel. As well, There was a Beer Store and Liquor store close by (less than 5 minute walk to either).
One of the things the hotel cannot do was change it's location. While easy walking distance to the Byward Market, the neighbourhood was not the greatest. There were a number of homeless/beggars that would approach us for change as we walked to the Byward Market. But even within the 'Market' (supposedly the 'Touristy' area), we were approached for money. Anyone who chooses a hotel in the area should be aware of this.
If you drive everywhere, than this shouldn't be an issue.
If you want to go to a diner type restaraunt for breakfast, look no further than across the street. Nate's Deli - it has a small store front, but after you go in, the back opens up and has seating for 300.
The restaurant in the hotel never seemed busy, and we never went in there.
For the money, I would say it is above average value from a hotel pespective.

This hotel was just fine. Rooms were very spacious and the hotel was very near the Byward Market area of Ottawa and also near the main sites and attractions. Price was very good. I would stay here again.
We spent three nights at this hotel and found it to be an excellent value. Rooms are average but clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Location is everything. Only a ten to fifteen minute walk to the parliament buildings. Right beside grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Free parking! Would be nice if they had in room movies. Would definitely stay there again.
