“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I stayed in this hotel for a weekend while attending a family event in Montreal and I have mixed feelings, here goes:

The Good: The location of the hotel is close to shopping, parliment buldings and Shpping mall. The hotel rooms are spacious and relatively clean, hotel parking is inexpensive, Rooms had great Air Conditioning, TV Cable worked well and friendly front desk staff.

The bad: Ice Machines did not work (We had to get ice from the restaurant), water pressure in the shower was very, very low and water temperature hard to control, the restaurant breakfast was a bit on the pricey side but the food and service were mediocre at best.

The ugly: The street in front of the hotel is under construction and it's a bit of a challenge navigating through the construction material and pot holes into the hotel, There are dozens of homeless and crackheads wondering around the hotel (I say crack head with all due respect but there were lots of druggies around) so walking around the hotel at night can be a bit entertaining. I also found it very annoying that the hotel did no allow us to check in 2 hours early but rules are rules.

As for positive feedback, the location of this hotel was great because we could walk to everywhere we had wanted to go. The bed was comfortable and the overall cleanliness of the room was decent, no complaints there.

However....

We didn't like that there was no POOL. When we realized that this is one of the only Days Inn hotels that doesn't have a swimming pool, and knowing we're in the heat of the summer, we tried to cancel it but it was non-refundable. Therefore we went into this trip with low expectations, and were disappointed even further when we got there....

The WORST part was that there was construction blocking our way of getting into the hotel, causing frustration on our planned route. Rideau Street is closed right where you're supposed to go in, right at the entrance. HUGE inconvenience when driving. We didn't like the fact that the water was shut down at night due to the construction either, and that it was noisy and messy anytime we stepped out of the hotel. It's understandable that it is not the hotel's fault for the construction, however there was no warning of this inconvenience when it was booked, and no form of compensation for it. The construction caused lots of inconvenience to drive anywhere and if we had known it was a disaster zone there we definitely wouldn't have stayed at this hotel.

The ice machine was also empty every time we tried to use it, and after telling the front counter clerk of this he told us he wouldn't do anything to fill the ice machine and it MIGHT be filled in the morning. Which, after trying the next morning too, it was not.

I learned from this experience that I will read reviews like this one before going ANYWHERE because you can't trust the hotel to warn you of any inconveniences.

Reception clerk could not put $100 back on debit card as the machine was not working and did not have enough cash in her float to give us the money back at checkout. She told my mom and I that we had to wait for someone in line to have cash and then she suggested that we go to a nearby money mart to purchase an empty prepaid Visa card and said she would pay us back for its purchase which was not helpful at all as the money Mart was 15min away and we realized that you cannot cash out the visa which we did not want. Also, the receptionist had continued to serve other customers who were behind us instead of dealing with our issue with the money which was not our fault... The manager should have left enough cash in the event this sort of thing happened. My mom after 30 min of waiting asked her what she was going to do about the situation and then she reached down to a drawer and pulled out $100. All that time was wasted for nothing!

People at reception were not welcoming at all. Few blocks from this hotel is a dense drug neighborhood. Hallways smell like Marijuana and vomit. I will never stay in this hotel with my family. The only advantage this place offers is that it is near main area where there are quite a few places to eat and that is where the buck stops.

As I entered the lobby, it was hot and muggy. The air conditioner was turned off. Even when the air was turned on the elevator was also hot. The room was great, king size bed but the tv was not working the entire time I was there. (2days)
