“Below Expectation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

We needed 2 reasonably priced rooms in downtown Ottawa for the Canada Day long weekend. Although still quite pricey, we got very basic rooms about a half hour walk from the Downtown core in a somewhat sketchy neighbourhood. It was a Comfort Inn when we booked, but had been down graded to an Econo Lodge prior to our arrival. The accommodations were basic and comfortable. I found the cleanliness of the rooms and property were not quite up to par, but otherwise fine. We booked 2 rooms with 2 queen beds, however upon entering we found out one of the rooms only had I queen bed next to a head board where the second bed should have been. They did not tell us about this when we checked in, and nothing was done to accommodate us. We were give a $10 discount for the inconvenience. Internet service does not work in the rooms. The continental breakfast consists of coffee, juice, apples, bread, croissants, and cereal. There is a Tim Hortons across the street, and a convenience store at the gas bar next door. Public transit is available in front of the Tim Hortons to go downtown.

Hotel has been downgraded by Choice Hotels from a Comfort Inn to an Econo lodge. It should be downgraded further to "delisted". We had no choice since we needed a handicapped room (in scarce supply in Ottawa). First night the rubber safety mat in the bathtub slipped while my wife was having a shower - she crashed out onto the floor of the bathroom. Management offered 10% discount on subsequent visits. The Air conditioner compressor was so noisy that the unit had to be turned off so you could sleep. High Speed Internet Access was non-existant - Management didn't care. The free Breakfast was a joke - lots of coffee and mini-muffins. The staff were courteous but obviously fearfull of losing their jobs. Won't stay in this facility again.

Room Tip: Stay Elsewhere - unless you are desperate.

This hotel is adequate, clean(somewhat) and is basic.....very basic. Carpet is stained and chair had a cigarette hole in the upholstery even though the room was a non-smoking room.
Bathroom was dated but cleanish. Bed was unstable but once you were lying down, it was comfortable.
For Ottawa which is overpriced, it was worth the money but not much more. Breakfast was basic but enough to get you going.
If you need a room at a reasonable price, then stay here but keep your expectations low. It will do the job and is acceptably clean but nothing more.

Overnight stay (something last minute). Upon arrival, our room was not ready (we were a little early) but was given another room instead in the back. This part of the hotel isn't open during the winter and they just opened it up because the weather was getting nicer. I wasn't pleased to see a dead bug of some sort in the bathroom floor. There's some updating that needs to be done, but other than that, everything else was fine. There's a Tim Horton's across the street (which my husband loved). The front desk staff were great.

We did a reservation through Choice hotel main number. The first room we got was disgusting since there was pee all around the toilet seat which had not been flushed, the handle beimg broken. We were then givrn asecond room that was unheated untilee got in. The bed structure was broken, the carpets were stained and there was mildew al around the door. We were given a substantial 10$ reduction.

Close to downtown with free parking, but not a great place to stay unless you're looking for the bare essentials. The bed was not comfortable, and there was an electrical box hanging out of the wall. When we asked the front desk to fix it, they said it would be looked at the next day, but nothing was done. The room had definitely not been "refurbished" in a long time, despite the claims on the website.

Room Tip: Avoid this place if you are looking for a nice place to stay. If all you need is a clean, functional...

I am not one to complain.... However, this was disgusting.... For start we walked into the room and it reeked like stale cigarettes. The bedding was ripped, the towels smelled like smoke, the continental breakfast had barely any choice and there was a hair on the cups. Not to mention the dirty kleenex we found to the left of Our bed and how in the middle of winter there are ants in a room is beyond me. I will never ever stay here again... Utterly disgusted.
