Stayed here for 2 nights in The John McGee Room and had a great time.
We arrived, paid the balance of our bill and was shown to our room, asked what time we wanted breakfast and that was pretty much the only contact we had with the owners. Not unfriendly at all and it was nice to just be left to it as opposed to having maps and other information rammed down your throats from the outset.
The house itself is superb - stuffed to the rafters with antiques and memrobillia - very interesting to just look round.
Location was fantastic - 10 minute walk to the downtown hub and Byward Market area which has loads of bars and restaurants and was good fun. If you wandered off down dark sideroads you would come across a salvation army shelter but this isn't a problem for me. Stick to the main streets if it is.
Our room had a very comfortable bed, a fridge, sofa, table and chairs, free wireless internet and a decent sized bathroom.
The only negative points were that the shower was out of keeping with the rest of the property. A amall-ish acrilyc (plastic) chamber with a non-adjustable shower head that blasted water straight at your face. Also, the air conditioner, despite working fine, was very very noisy and being window-mounted right next to the bed was not very practical. Ceiling fan would have been nicer.
Breakfast, as stated by other reviwers was very good.
All in all I would stay here again.
