We booked this after reading many reviews written here on Trip Advisor. We looked at a B&B since we were quite shocked at the Ottawa hotel rates we saw when planning our two-night stay.
We were absolutely delighted with McGee's Inn.
We loved the Sandy Hill location. Some reviewers have expressed concern about the area, which is adjacent to the University of Ottawa campus and very close to downtown and the Byward Market area. This contributes to a very diverse area population. The free on-site parking with no in/out fees was a real plus for us.
Sarah Armstrong warmly welcomed us on arrival about 5pm after a long drive from the Washington DC area. Our room (#15) was exactly as outlined on their website. We knew we would not be spending a lot of time in the room, so cozy fit our needs well. The en-suite shower, although compact, worked very well. The queen-sized bed was very comfortable and we both slept soundly both nights.
Breakfast both mornings was wonderful, with a choice of two hot dishes such as an omelette or Eggs Benedict offered. This is in addition to baked goods fresh out of the oven that morning, juices, cereals, fresh fruit, etc.
Location: We felt this was a real plus for the Inn. There are many restaurants within walking distance offering a huge variety of cuisines over a broad range of price points. There is even a good size supermarket 2 half-blocks away. We had no concerns about our personal safety.
If you have a chance to peruse various documentation at the Inn, you will learn that it has a wonderful background, or as they say on the Antiques Roadshow, provenance.
When we next travel to Ottawa, we will definitely stay at the Inn again. This is a keeper!
