We spent one night here during our 15-day holiday in Ontario and Québec. House and room (small but cozy) were fine, close to the city center and lots of restaurants. Wireless internet worked properly too and we could park in front of the building. Breakfast was also allright.

However, we didn't feel we were welcome there. The lady was only interested in getting our credit card details just we arrived and she didn't even offer my wife a table or a pen to sit down and sign. She didn't smile once and she didn't showed us our room, which we had to find by ourselves.

We were quite dissapointed since we had expected a better B&B atmosphere. The reminder at the room door about the checkout time and the number of warnings in the information book for guests didn't help much to increase our comfort. Although the house and the room were fully ok, we were happy to leave the next morning.

If you are looking for a friendly and familiar atmosphere, go somewhere else. Otherwise, this B&B is fine.

“Wonderful Stay”

I had the pleasure of staying at McGee's over the Canada Day long weekend this year. What a fantastic place to be. My room was outstanding, charmingly decorated, immaculately clean and wonderfully comfortable. The Armstrongs hosted an amazing bbq on Canada day for guests and family. The Inn is ideally located in a beautiful neighborhood, a short walk to the Byward Market, Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill. I will definitely be back.

“Very nice B&B in Ottawa”

Stayed here for 2 nights in The John McGee Room and had a great time.

We arrived, paid the balance of our bill and was shown to our room, asked what time we wanted breakfast and that was pretty much the only contact we had with the owners. Not unfriendly at all and it was nice to just be left to it as opposed to having maps and other information rammed down your throats from the outset.

The house itself is superb - stuffed to the rafters with antiques and memrobillia - very interesting to just look round.

Location was fantastic - 10 minute walk to the downtown hub and Byward Market area which has loads of bars and restaurants and was good fun. If you wandered off down dark sideroads you would come across a salvation army shelter but this isn't a problem for me. Stick to the main streets if it is.

Our room had a very comfortable bed, a fridge, sofa, table and chairs, free wireless internet and a decent sized bathroom.

The only negative points were that the shower was out of keeping with the rest of the property. A amall-ish acrilyc (plastic) chamber with a non-adjustable shower head that blasted water straight at your face. Also, the air conditioner, despite working fine, was very very noisy and being window-mounted right next to the bed was not very practical. Ceiling fan would have been nicer.

Breakfast, as stated by other reviwers was very good.

All in all I would stay here again.

“Owners not friendly”

Auberge McGee's Inn

For a Bed & Breakfast I would have preferred a friendlier atmosphere! I did not feel the owners to be welcoming at all; in fact a hotel would have been more inviting, and it is for this reason that I would not recommend staying in this B&B. Also, I did not feel safe walking around the surrounding area, especially at night.

This establishment a preserved historic home in a great location. It is in a quiet neighbourhood but only a 3 minute walk to the downdown district and tourist attractions( i.e. Parliament Hill, Byward Market, Rideau Centre, Sparks St. Mall). It is family owned and operated, providing friendly and personal service. Parking is on site and free of charge.
The room that my wife and I occupied during our 2 night stay was spacious, included a fridge, tv, air conditioner, telephone, and was very tastefully decorated. The most outstanding feature for me was the INCLUDED hot breakfast served in the beautiful dining area. Choices ranged from Eggs Benedict, Strawberry and Banana Crepes, Green Apple and Brie Cheese Crepes, Sundried Tomato Omellet, Ham and Cheese Omellete, and the usual cold cereals, fruit, and coffee and juices.
We will definately return.
