“Great location, good price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2010

I booked two nights in July with my two young adult daughters. I stayed one night, while my daughters stayed two. The hotel is definitely budget, no frills, but we were satisfied with our large room with two double beds and a pull out. The decor was dated, but the room was clean. The comments about the elevator service are accurate - you can't be in a hurry, as you may be standing around waiting for a long while. Parking was an extra $15, and it was a tight squeeze, but for the location, one can't really complain. We paid $228 CAD for two nights (booked through air canada WWTMS), which was not bad for a place that is walking distance to the Hill, the Market, most museums, the Arts Centre, etc. in the height of tourist season.

First, I was happy to get parking at the hotel in a downtown location for a decent price. Free would have been better, but it is downtown and it is a lower cost hotel. Being an older hotel, the walls were a bit on the thin side (I could hear others conversations through the vent in the bathroom). The room was clean, the pillows were a bit on the thin side(maybe if the hotel reads this they'll upgrade a few!). The clerks were very nice and helpful. The restaurant next door was handy for breakfast and it took a whole 8 minutes to walk to the Byward market-a great spot for shopping and eating.

I read the reviews before I booked this hotel, but when I arrived, it was nothing like people said. It was old and unkempt, the phone and tv in my room didn't work, the room was tiny and not very clean, and when I asked to switch rooms they insisted they were full and couldn't accommodate me. Even though the rate was not expensive, I would not stay here again. I don't recommend this hotel unless you don't mind small, dirty and broken. Also, the internet connection was not secure, so may as well not have it as far as I'm concerned.

This is a good choice for it's location alone being minutes from the Parliment buildings.
Rooms are OK and clean and the staff friendly. Parking is extra and a tight squeeze but still appreciated. A reasonable base at a reasonable price.

Stayed 2 nights and this a great location to see the sights of central Ottawa. The parliament building and Rideau canal is 5 minutes walk and the Byward Market area about 10 minutes.

Place was full with bus tours but they accomodated our room change request as original room looked out onto aircon outlets and noisy. Place is old and faded but very clean and bed comfortable enough. Seemed to be well run. Quiet rooms.

Bus from airport stops outside and the bus to Via train station leaves from the road behind hotel so easy to travel if you do not have a car.

This was not a bad hotel, clean, décor good and the location was good for everything we wanted. We did not eat in the restaurant so we cannot comment. When going on tours you are not really sure of what you are going to get and you cannot select hotels to stay in as these are pre booked by the operator. To date we have not had a bad hotel that has been arranged by the operators.

The only major down side is the lifts; these are a disgrace for a hotel of this size. The staff have to take a lift out of service to use for luggage and moving hotel equipment. We had to wait on occasions for a lift for long periods, the longest being 12 minutes, I did complain to a member of the staff moving luggage, he was polite and courteous and said what else can we do with so much to move. There really should be a service lift leaving the other two lifts for guests.

The only other problem was the bathroom door which was locked shut, we had to wait for 30 minutes for a maintenance man to arrive and fix it. He said it was not the first time it has happened.

Overall we would stay at this hotel again

Their websire is very misleading. The hotel is old and dated. I had to go to the front desk 3 times as my room card would not open my door and they put me on the 10th floor! No phones in the halls to call down or get help, no had to go down to the front desk every time. Bed was hard, like sleeping on a cinder block, and linens were scratchy! Yuck. Will not stay there ever again, Cannot be sure who the staff is as they have no uniforms. room was small and smelled very musty.
