“Amazing ...Almost Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2010

To start with we were here on a pleasure trip with a little business mixed in so the family came along.
We booked a 3 night stay and when you arrive the Hotel is pure excitement from the grand entrance to the beautiful foyer and lovely rooms.
It is truely a grand hotel in the sense..History is displayed at every turn.

But !!!!!!!!!!
Yes we had a but........When you book a family into a grand hotel where the room rates are more than most incomes ...
Would it not make sense to NOT ! put them on a SOLD OUT floor reserved for a wedding with many high profile people attending. What a party they had and ALL NIGHT !
We had an ADJOINING ROOM ,which we never accept but had no choice because they messed up and were booked solid. We were stuck in the middle of it all.
To our delight( NOT) we had a very important guest staying beside up with the company of some women who laughed and drank and smoked (non-smoking rooms)all night long. The smoke was coming under the door and us with 2 small kids.
Calling Security quieted it down for a few minutes but an hour later it starts again.
The energy this guy had....Amazing.

They still ruined our first night...I guess they got a bill for cleaning as well due to smoke.
Like he cared ? Charge it...
Very nice and the guest next to us sent us a nice breakfast to say sorry. The Manager was very helpful because he knew what went on and who it was and moved us to a suite.....Not sure who paid the upgrade...wasn't us.
The suites are amazing and so quiet. Next two nights were great.
Just remember it is an old building and sound proofing was not thought of.......
The wood work and history is just astounding but nothing between the walls at all.......

Worth the Money............AWWWWWWWW! hard to say....
Just to say you were there ..... Maybe !!!!
Very close to everything you want to see and walked everywhere..........
VERY EXPENSIVE is all we could say though...........
ONLY wish I worked for the Government and could charge it to the taxpayer like our Neighbour did. Thanks for the Breakfast .......

this hotel was really beautiful, i loved it. my mom took me to old fashioned tea in the afternoon and it was awesome, we got all these sandwiches and treats and you could choose your tea from a huge cart and this really nice man served us everything, it was super fancy. there are all kinds of photos of people like princess di and john lennon and yoko ono in the hotel, so many people have stayed there! it has big ballrooms and everything. best of all, we took a tour with the haunted walk of ottawa and found out that the hotel was haunted! it made it way more fun to stay there that night. nothing happened, but i was pretty nervous! :) the hotel had really pretty views of the city and i was really glad we got to stay there.

This hotel was clean and a bit dated but you can't beat the location. Beautiful building. My kids thought it was a castle. Staff was nice. Only two complaints the a/c in room couldn't keep up (10 foot ceilings) so our room was warm. The pool was beautiful but fully inside the building with no windows and is not for young children. Only a ladder going into it and my tall 6yr old couldn't touch. The beds were so comfortable and this was by far the quietest hotel I have ever been in. Couldn't hear toliets flushing, doors slamming or showers running. Slept like babies !

Stayed at the Chateau for two nights. The room overlooking the parliament buildings was excellent. Room service was speedy and the food great as was breakfast and lunch at Wilfreds on the main floor. Overall the service was friendly and efficient. Definitely worth the money.

Great location and interesting architectural monument, but seems to need a little brush up – and definitely should have an eye on the housekeeping (e.g. entrance door full of fingerprints, elevators the same). Very comfortable beds, nice bar and great breakfast buffet.

Original intention was to go skating on Rideau canal - unfortunately due to rain it closed the day we go there...

Hotel is in great location to parliament and short walking distance to Byward Market. Rooms very comfortable - Great gym with new equipment - great Bar downstairs. Rooms slowly getting updated. Our room had a view of canal and Parliament. If you are only ever going to go to Ottawa once and are going for short time period. This is the place.

Pool is original pool and is worth a visit.

The biggest benefit of the hotel in my mind is location; there is a lot to do within walking distance of the hotel. I went for a jog around the Parliament buildings, across the bridge to the Quebec side and a short jaunt up the Rideau Canal. When I stayed at the hotel, there was construction during the day as workers fix the roof. I stayed on one of the higher floors which was fine however a colleague was on the first floor and had to contend with workers walking by her window. The rooms are interesting as the hotel tries to update their design within the structural limitations of a hotel built over 100 years ago. The room probably had too much furniture in it making it feel slightly cramped. The TV was housed in one of the standard hotel cabinets which took up way too much room. The work station was adequate however the layout made it hard to keep an eye on the hockey playoffs. My room did have a beautiful washroom that appears to have been recently upgraded. Room service was timely and the food was good. All in, I enjoyed my stay at one of the more visually striking hotels in Canada.
