The Albert at Bay is a converted apartment building, which means that the suites are spacious and highly suitable for longer stays. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are fine, and the decor is more or less corporate. The adjoining restaurant is warm and welcoming, even if its food is not memorable (at least at breakfast), and the hallway down to an adjoining convenience store is also a nice feature. What's lacking is any sense of polish or panache, and since the immediate neighborhood is rather drab, this is not a good site for anything romantic. But if you're a serious business traveler to Ottawa, who doesn't want to pay for the ceremony and theatrical touches of a big centrally located hotel, this is a dependable choice. One warning: Don't stay on the highest floor, since the hotel's physical plant is on or near the top of the building and some rooms just below that level can feel the hum and vibration.
