The Albert at Bay is a converted apartment building, which means that the suites are spacious and highly suitable for longer stays. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are fine, and the decor is more or less corporate. The adjoining restaurant is warm and welcoming, even if its food is not memorable (at least at breakfast), and the hallway down to an adjoining convenience store is also a nice feature. What's lacking is any sense of polish or panache, and since the immediate neighborhood is rather drab, this is not a good site for anything romantic. But if you're a serious business traveler to Ottawa, who doesn't want to pay for the ceremony and theatrical touches of a big centrally located hotel, this is a dependable choice. One warning: Don't stay on the highest floor, since the hotel's physical plant is on or near the top of the building and some rooms just below that level can feel the hum and vibration.

An excellent place to stay if you are visiting Ottawa.
The suites are very large and extremely clean and well looked after.
The building appeared to me to have been a former apartment block that has been converted into a hotel.
Do not be put off by the fact that the hotel is on the "wrong" side of the city for the Byward Market area, as Ottawa is a wonderfully compact and accessible city, which means that in 20 easy walking minutes you are in that area.
If you book direct with the hotel, it is possible to utilise some of their special event packages which makes an already value for money stay, that bit better.

Stayed for two nights on 16&17/10.

Entrance to hotel from Car Park side is very disappointing and, if you get a suite which faces out the back, you will be well disappointed with your view.
The accommodation is spacious and well fitted. The 24 hour convenience store with direct access from the Hotel is well stocked.
Dont understand previous member comments - we were charged for car parking even though our car was too high to fit into the garage area and was left out on the access road down to the garage level.
Accommodation is not best located for evening entertainment or the ByWard Market / Rideau Centre areas but, if you enjoy walking, it wont require taxi fares.

Great value for a 3 night stay in Ottawa. With CAA discount and free parking (again CAA) our rate for a king room with living room, dining room, full kitchen and den, was $139 CDN. Preferred this location to our usual, the Lord Elgin. Driving to new War Museum (must see) and to Hull was much more convienent. Also caught OC Transpo at the door for trip to hockey game. Was not as convienent to walk to the Market or to restaurants, but there are still several in the area.

We loved the hotel. It was extremely clean and spacious. Much bigger that we expected. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous, especially Patrick and Bernadette.

The Bistro Cafe was excellent for breakfast everyday. They have a $5.95 buffett breakfast that has everything you could ask for. The Sunday brunch is $12.95. It's the same as the everyday breakfast but also includes prime rib and eggs benedict.

The Black Bear Pub has a great tasting steak special for $14.95 and a terrific waitress named Melissa.

Everything about this hotel is so convenient. It's only about 10 to 15 minutes from Parliament, but if you want to save your feet there is a bus stop just across the street. Daily bus passes are $7.25 (you can buy them on the bus) and take the #18 - St. Laurent and you can go straight to the Rideau Centre. Cab fare from the hotel to the Byward is about $7.50. Very clean cabs in Ottawa, and courteous drivers. They actually engage in conversation with you instead of being on their cell phones like they are in many big cities.

We plan to go back to Ottawa and we'll be sure to stay at the Albert at Bay Suites.
