This hotel is walking distance to Parliament in Ottawa, so you can eat a leisurely breakfast and walk to see the changing of the guard, etc.
Ours was a four-person trip, and we got a two bedroom suite. We were not disappointed. The suite was larger than some apartments, for roughly the same money you'd pay for a regular hotel room in a national capital city in most countries. Each bedroom had its own full bath en-suite. The bedrooms were separated by a living room and galley kitchenette, along with an "ironing room" (a huge, empty walk-in-closet with a breaker panel and an ironing board) big enough to dance in.
Water pressure: great. Bed quality: superb. Extras: this hotel has a "pillow menu", from which you can choose your favorite flavor of pillow, to be delivered to your room at no extra charge. This menu includes a body-length pillow, great for side sleepers who sleep alone.
Parking: The hotel has underground parking which is included with some room rates, or an additional 20CAD at other room rates. The self-park garage is not fit for SUVs - it is very cramped and designed as if cars are able to turn 90 degrees on a dime.
Services: There is a vast variety of take-out places that will deliver to this hotel; everything from Lebanese to Thai to Chinese and pizza of every shape and size. All take credit cards, and all (except for the Thai place, which took an inexplicable hour+) delivered lightning fast.
The convenience store (connected to the hotel, accessible via a hallway, so no need to go outside) had the bare necessities, but variety (selection) was lacking. You can buy water, milk, etc., but don't expect a lot of different yogurt flavors. If you want cold coffee drink in a bottle or can (a la Nescafe or Starbucks), forget it - they've never heard of that here.
Service: I didn't see a bellhop, luggage carts are self-service. Although there is a taxi stand outside the door, there were no cabs and the front desk had to call them on the phone. Front desk staff was very friendly and patient but sometimes slow to answer the phone.
Cleanliness: the beds were mercifully free of scary beasts of any variety. The bathrooms were clean enough and supplied well (speaking of supplies, the soap they provide here, a "coconut lime verbena" is fabulous). The kitchenette was fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans, silverware, etc. But the coffee machine was not usable -- it was beyond filthy. We tried to clean it, but gave up after the third round of scraping out the muck of past runs. Disgusting! And the couch cushions, when lifted, revealed several past stays worth of snack crumbs and other detritus. Shudder!
A rambling review, this, so let me summarize: great hotel, but don't expect much in the way of "extras" beyond their awesome pillow menu. Great location, but cramped parking garage. Reasonable price, but be sure something is clean before you use it or sit on it. The negatives chopped one dot off of my rating. If the room had been cleaner, this would have been a 5-star experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again when visiting Ottawa.
