“Quiet, peaceful, beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Loved the atmosphere of this gallery. My favourite part was the little room with Group of 7 paintings. I could have sat in there for hours. Loved the atrium and the open room that people could just sit and sketch in. They also had musicians playing quietly, which was nice.

The cafeteria was actually a nice surprise with a spectacular view.

“Interesting Small Exhibitions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The Gallery had two interesting exhibitions based on their own collection. The Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens exhibition, while limited, provided an opportunity to view original preliminary sketches/paintings by the artists and their students and see how they were incorporated in final works. This type of exhibition is currently very popular in European art galleries. The Inuit exhibition of New Work in the Canadian Arctic was excellent, as the museum has a top quality collection.

“Skip the first floor and start your visit on the 2nd.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

I was very impressed by the collection at the National Gallery however if you have limited time and dislike modern art I would start immediately on the second floor. All of Canada should be so proud of our group of seven and ealier Canadian paintings. The third floor of International art has many stunning examples you would expect to view at any top gallery. This is a must see but I will leave the ground floor to your interpretation.

The National Gallery has a fantastic collection of exquisite art work. It is a fabulous way to spend 2 or 3 very enjoyable hours. One comes away feeling very enriched with a new sense of appreciation for beautiful art.

“Interesting exhibits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

I like going on Thursday nights - it's free after 5pm! :) I've seen a lot of interesting, and rather bizarre, exhibits there. I think the weirdest was the PopArt exhibit. The coolest I've seen was one called "The House Dream" by David Hoffos. It was a mix of these dioramas and video projections. It's fun to go with friends and discuss the art.
