After a day of walking around downtown and sightseeing I highly recommend taking a boat tour along Rideau canal.

Locks were interesting to watch. Pretty views. Nice place to walk and bike. Purchased artwork from local artist.

“Nice place to talk a walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

The canal is very pretty and is nice for a pleasant stroll. Watching the locks being operated by hand is an interesting way to spend some time - from the bridge above or from next to the locks themselves.

“Wonderful scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

So you like Prague and Amsterdam; and your expectations for Ottawa are at best middling. But this Canal boasts the longest skating rink in the world! There are numerous gorgeous vantage points from which to view the Parliament Hills. The Rideau Canal is now quite spruced-up. Small pop-up places offer a beer or wine as well as quick (or leisurely) meals. At the other end, the Dow's Lake has a few restaurants that cater to those more accustomed to Mojitos and nachos.

“Go For the Skating, Stay For the Beavertails”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012 via mobile

The canal is great-- assuming you like skating and it's open. It's tricky to find a time to skate there if you're visiting the city, because they close it on warm days sometimes and the season doesn't last more than two and a half months or so. Also you don't want to go on frigid, -20 degree days. You'll freeze your head off in the open. However, it goes on forever and there's beavertail stands everywhere you look-- selling flat, doughy, sugary masterpieces that have nothing to do with actual beavers. If you have skates, bring them, it's no fun walking and you have to watch out for the speed skaters and the hockey guys who zoom past. There are some cracks around, smallish safe-enough ones, so skating at night can get a little tricky. (Don't worry, there's no actual holes one could fall through.) Overall a great experience on nice days though it does get pretty crowded. Make sure you get a beavertail.
