This started as a "Hey why not try this one?" type thing as we were walking by. We went in and chose to stay because of the friendliness and the inviting photos of the various menu offerings. Prices are very fair and the Daal (lentil) soup is an absolute must have!! 1 Naan bread is plenty for 2 people and it is very tasty. I had the tikki chicken plate and my bride had the butter chicken platter. She really enjoyed it and she tries the butter chicken everywhere she can! My tikki chicken was very good and very spicy and the salad we got with our meals was very fresh. We wanted more but the portion was just right. The rice was very good; there was a lot and it was somewhat clumpy; that did not take away any of the taste though - it was one of the best tasting rices I've had in a long time and I grew up with a father that had to have rice at every meal!
Great service and incredibly friendly staff - all of them!!!
The waitress is very knowledgeable about the menu and makes it a point to respect good health practices. I mention this because at one point, a delivery driver(we think - an elderly gent), came in, went behind the counter and started to touch everything but had not washed his hands. Now here is the part that got us: he paid for an order or paid for the trip or got paid for the evening but he and the head chef exchanged money after counting it and then both of them went back to work WITHOUT even trying to wash their hands and touched everything in the kitchen including food, utensils, foil, etc!! This happened on many occasions during the hour we spent there. You can see everything going on in the kitchen area as the counter is glass and they cook behind it. You can also pick up on poor health practices; really bad!! In the future, I would order there again but would get it delivered so I don't know if they washed their hands or not!! Do not let this deter you from trying this absolutely excellent Indian cuisine restaurant! Just know that hand washing is not a high priority. I waited 2 days to write this just to be sure I would not be ill or anything like that and neither my bride nor I had any problems. Would we go back? Yes! Do we wish they would wash their hands more often and diligently? Yes! Will it stop us from going back? No! The food is really that good!! Keep in mind that in India and many other countries for that matter, hand washing is optional at best so you may as well experience the whole thing! Enough about that!
Atmosphere is great, lighting is subdued but very enjoyable, decor is absolutely delightful and very colourfull! Not much parking very near so park a few streets way and walk there.
We had a great meal for 2 people. No drinks except water, no dessert, no extras except the naan bread and the daal soup. We walked out of there very happy and content with our meal for under 30 bucks including tip! That is a fantastic deal in the nation's capital!! Enjoy.
