“Great Night Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

Dinner with friends last night, would recommend to anyone. The service was great, quick and knowledgable staff, and the place has great ambience. All of our meals were great- especially the Blackened tuna and the Scallops. Will be going back again!

“Outstanding food, outstanding service !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We recently went with a group of friends - 10 of us total. We had a great time and loved every bite. We ordered a few things at a time and shared as a group so that we could taste many dishes because no one could decide what to order-wanted to try everything! Not one dish lagged behind any other - they were all fantastic! What stood out for me was the seafood fondue, beet salad, jambalaya and the scallops. Our waiter was terrific ! He was patient, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks and had a great sense of humour. I had been in once before and sat at the bar for a drink and apps. The bartender was very busy - the place was packed - yet I felt like my friend and I were the only ones in the place. That's how professional and friendly he was. We never had to wait for anything. The fresh oysters are a must try! Looking forward to many more meals at Big Easy's!

“It's a keeper!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

I was pleasantly pleased upon arriving at the Big Easy location in Little Italie Ottawa. I was just off the plane from Vancouver, B.C. and I desperately needed a comfy, cozy and delicious place to settle down. It certainly didn't disappoint. The waiter was pleasant and helpful to our needs and the food was wonderful.
I will certainly go back and order fresh oysters again.

“Good food but perhaps misleading”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We went as a group of six people and everything tasted good including scallops, shrimp and lobster. However, one of the items on the menu was $70.00. It was KOBE beef. I just watched "Marketplace" on TV and claims to be serving KOBE beef made by restaurants were deemed to be false. KOBE beef is produced exclusively from Japan and NEVER imported to North America per the Marketplace report. This is truly a case of Buyer Beware. There are many restaurants that sell KOBE products on their menu and this is one of them.

Leigh-Anne M, Manager at Big Easy's Seafood and Steakhouse, responded to this review, April 11, 2013
This is in response to the claim that we are “falsely” selling Kobe beef at Big Easy’s Seafood and Steakhouse. There have been a few news articles lately claiming, that what Canadian restaurants are selling is not true Kobe beef. This is not the case. The ban on importation of beef from Japan was lifted in August 27, 2012. Many of the articles which people are basing their knowledge on are dated back to April of the same year. The ban was initially put in place as a result of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in 2010.

We are in fact importing our beef from Japan, as was noted in a recent article published by Mr. Ron Eade of the Ottawa Citizen. It is true, that the Wagyu (meaning Japanese cow) produced in Kobe is limited in its distribution based on the cattle ranch sizes in the region. Wagyu is the proper name for the Japanese cow that is bred to produce what has become known as “Kobe Beef”. Kobe beef is that made under Japanese law, from Hyogo prefecture in Japan, of which Kobe is the capital. There are various regions in Japan that raise the same lineage of cattle yielding the same quality of beef. Kobe has become the standard, similarly as Champagne has done for sparkling wine. By adhering to the rigid standards and meeting all of the qualifications the beef of neighbouring regions can thus be exported toting that very distinction.

The beef that Big Easy’s is selling to our clientele is of this high standard and therefore the “real” deal. We would never mislead our guests and would be more than happy to go through the details of our beef that we are importing with guests. On hand, at any time, within our establishment we have the certified Health Certificate, Export Quarantine Certificate and Air Waybill to legitimize the product we are selling.

As an establishment, we hold ourselves to high standards and would never mislead our guests by selling an inferior or false product. We would have gladly provided you with all of this information and more detail had you made your concern known to us at the time of your visit. A public forum like this can be very hurtful to establishments and their reputation if facts are misunderstood.

Please refer to Mr. Ron Eade’s blog for further information: http://blogs.ottawacitizen.com/tag/ron-eade/

“Expected more for a fine dine!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I recently went to this restaurant for a friends birthday party (13pl) and was disapointed with the food. Im a person that eats anything but when i go to a place that charges a bit more than your regular restaurant, i expect it to taste GOOD.

This place was very attentive and were good to server everyone in a timely manner so for that i give the 5*. The staff was frendly and could not ask for anything better.

Ok so this place specializes in southern foods and one would think they would be good at it. Jambalaya should be a no brainer but unfortunelty i will have to say it was bland and no flavor. It could have been the cook that night but this should never happen especialy when you are paying $25 for a plate. BP can give me a better tasting dish for a lot less and lets be honest, BP is not all that great.
As for the meat plates, the rest of the party were on the fench of it being ok to good. Again for what you are paying we should all be saying " this is the best meal we have had".

The drinks were good and priced regular.

Located in little italy and the restaurant is well decorated and looks beautiful. It does give you that sense of southern comfort!

I cant speak for the ladies but the gentlemens room is way too small. They should have thought of this and believe me when i tell you this, its very awakward. If you have been then you will know what i mean.
