“Wow what music”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

had the pleasure of visiting this place cause their sister restaurant (Joe Mamas) were too busy to accommodate us and boy were we glad. The jazz musicians were awesome, its a small narrow alley like place, seating is tight but we got lucky and got a seat at the bar. The music is excellent, we didn't eat here but everything looked phenomenal. must visit place if you are a Jazz lover.

“Good food, excellent location to theater district”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

Located on King St. by the Royal Alexander Theatre. Great place if you want a "little" spice to your meal! Fills up fast before the shows - recommend reservations. You can be in and out and on time for the theatre performances. Lots of menu items to choose from and the food can be spicy but very good. Price point is avg. ($10-15 for meal) and portion sizes are nice. We had reservations for 7 pm. and stayed late since we really enjoyed the live music. The live music was fun, lively and loud enough that you could still have a conversation. We would return again if/when we are visiting this area. Great place to go for anyone who enjoys live music or date nights.

“Nice atmosphere, so-so food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

This was a nice restaurant with a lot of character. Live music started about 8 PM on the Saturday I visited. It was a tad cramped, however. They jam the tables in a little too tightly. They have a nice drink menu. The food was only so-so. I had the grilled lamb, asking for medium but getting well.

I might return, but there are many other options in this area. I'll probably try one of them next time.

“A decent little place in the Entertainment District”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2011

Nawlins is located across the road from the TIFF Bell Lightbox on the south side of King Street near John Street. The restaurant itself is a very narrow and somewhat cramped environment. The menus are looking a little shabby for this type of establishment. The food offered certainly did not mirror that of an authentic New Orleans restaurant (no jambalaya on the menu?!) I order the gumbo, salad with blackened chicken and bruschetta. All were pretty good. The service was decent. The prices suitable. There was an overwhelming varnish smell when I went; not sure what that was. I was not there while there was live music. In all though, not bad.

“Pre-show dinner was good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2010

The promise of a New Orleans type food with some jazz sounded great. Was seated just before the dinner rush. This resto is cozy, meaning there's not a lot of personal space to be had, but that's okay. The music was pleasant enough - a live piano player who made the dinner enjoyable. One waitress for a room that seemed to hold about 45 people doesn't seem adequate to provide attentive service, which was the only real problem. Swordfish special was tasty, caesar salad with grilled chicken was good.

Being a stone's throw from the Princess of Wales theatre was the real draw.

This was a good, decent place.
