“Don't be fooled by the location - fantastic meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

Don't be fooled by the location being in a strip mall, the food and service is fantastic. Local ingredients, great variety in menu, creative. The room is a little dark but the atmosphere is fun and lively. Great wine list and menu provides pairing suggestions.

“Our Favorite Place to Eat in Niagara on Lake Region”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2011

We always look forward to eating at Stone Road Grille either before or after we see a play at Shaw Festival. Its a good idea to make a reservation, but if you dont have a reservation you may be able to eat at the bar. The decor is really cool and the service cant be beat. The menu is quite interesting and the flavors of the food literally explode.
They really know how to provide special touches to everything they do.

“A Niagara institution”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2011

Locally known as "Rest" ( you'll have to ask why) the Stone Road Grill is a great place to eat if you don't mind a crowded, fairly noisy, busy place with excellent food and service at decent prices. This has a feel of a popular big city restaurant, not that it is huge, but tables are close together and the place always seems to have a kind of buzz.
Service is good and if you are going to a play just mention it to your server. Locals like to eat here too so chances are that without a reservation you won't get in - plan ahead. Don't be put off by the strip mall location - there are plenty of more beautiful places to eat in NOTL but Rest is popular for good reasons.

“Over rated and over priced - a real disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

We went to this restaurant from the recommendation of our B & B and so we were expectiong a good meal. We had taken away a sample menu to look at when booking but it turned out to be the actual menu which was very limited. We are NOT fussy eaters but I honestly struggled to choose something that inspired me. The place was busy and had a good atmosphere but I wonder how many people are there on a one and only visit. Courses are offered in two sizes and given the enormous meals we had been struggling with previously we both ordered the smaller choice of mains. Well they wouldn't have fed a child ...tiny portions of not very good food and extortionate prices for what they were. So - we were still hungry after that and chose the cheese board to share. I pity any mice who live nearby - even they would have had to look elsewhere after those measly offerings and worse still it was served with the most overpoweringly strong, flavoured bread which did nothing to compliment the cheese choice at all. The bill for this meagre meal with a bottle of wine and a beer came to a staggering £92.55 (144 Canadian Dollars) we were horrified and spoke to the Maitre D on exiting about the lack of choice and portion size. She assured us that the menu was changed every 2 weeks (!!) so not much of a challenge there for the kitchen. Next night we went into NOTL and had an excellent, great value meal which was streets ahead as far as choice, taste, service and price was concerned - we had thought going to the centre of town would be more expensive and that this little main roadside grill would be a reasonably priced good choice - how wrong can you be?? As someone who relies on Trip Advisor a lot for my travelling experiences I look at reviews like the one I have just written amongst good reviews and wonder where the person is coming from - but I am now that person. I am sure Stone Road Grill will continue to be popular and be well supported but thankfully we will not have to eat there again. It was THE MOST expensive meal by far on our whole 2 week trip and memorably the worst. When we went to Kingston and had a 3 course Table D'Hote meal, with wine, in a lovely restaurant for less than the price it cost for this meal we wondered if the whole thing had just been a bad dream.

“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

This restaurant came recommended by Prince of Wales hotel,.
However, the service was horrible from the minute we sat down.
Our server had to be flagged to give our order for drinks, then we were attacked by fruit flies, which the waiter stated was due to the grapes growing in the area. There were fruit flies flying around our drinks.
We ordered drinks, and were never followed up with more, then charged for refills of ice tea when we did get it refilled. We ordered our meals, to receive the smallest portions we have ever seen, to find out our waiter served us the half portion, which he never even mentioned to us. After noticing a butter knife on the table, we asked if bread was served and the waiter told us, if we wanted some, he would bring it over, not even offering it from the start. We were friendly to him, but felt that he didn't want to serve us because he was way too busy serving others??? The food was fantastic of what we had tasted , but will never go back when in the area again as we felt our evening was a huge disappointment from a restaurant that was written up with grand reviews a few months earlier. I feel they are walking away with the review and forgetting how they got that far. They have failed as a fine dining establishment big time.
