My wife and I stayed at the Blairpen House for one night in August and had a wonderful experience. We arrived in Niagara-on-the-Lake without reservations and stayed at the Best Western Colonel Butler Inn our first night and the Blairpen House our second night. The Blairpen House was significantly cheaper than the Best Western and provided a much more charming experience (and much better value overall) - we will definitely stay at the Blairpen again if we return to the area.
The Inn is tucked away on a quiet residential street just a couple short blocks from the main shopping/restaurant area of the town. The Inn is also an easy walk from the main theater of the Shaw Festival. Tim Rigg from the Blairpen House greeted us upon arrival and was the perfect host - very welcoming and he immediately made us feel right at home in his Inn.
Our room was basic and very comfortable. The room was very clean and well kept. We had a small balcony off the back of our room with a small table and chairs, our balcony overlooked a charming patio below but provided enough privacy for us to enjoy a glass of wine and read in the afternoon. Breakfast was very good, offering a wide variety of fresh fruit, breads, and croissants, as well as yogurt, cheese, turkey, and ham slices, and coffee and juices. And Tim Riggs and the rest of the staff were very friendly throughout our stay.
We highly recommend the Blairpen House based on our experience - great location, friendly staff, very good breakfast, and for the rate we're not aware of a better value in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
